Ishwari's character is somehow symbolic of the gender bias that is prevalent even today.. she is happy that neha is learning English now, when they have the means to afford it but even today when it comes to wanting the best for her children, it is always Dev that crops up in her mind.. I love how neha is unconventional and stands up to both Dev and Ishwari.. Both sona and neha's characters are so complex and beautiful.. I wish they had more scenes together as I feel Neha would be the first to understand that Dev needs Sonakshi in his life who understands him at a deeper level and not Natasha is almost his twin.. like they say, two peas in a pod died of inertia!!

@bold: Word! I remember right from the beginning of the show wanting to see more interactions between Sona and Neha, and a friendship developing between them. There were a few scenes when Sona first came to the house that I loved as well but after Neha started her classes, she hasn't been shown at home that much. Hopefully with all the strands of the plot colliding now, we will see their interactions more. I completely agree that Neha would be able to assess the situation and would love it if she has a hand in Dev's eventual realisation!

Ishwari, who can read her son like a book, who knows everything about him , is unaware of a very important fact about him...his sleeping pills. But Sona does...and he didnt feel the least bit uncomfortable about her finding them or didnt even doubt that she would go tell his mother. That is how much he trusts her.

She effects him in away that he cant really ignore...like if she says something, he ends up listening to her whether he wants to or not...for example the sleeping pills. When he felt restless and gets up to have the pills, he couldnt help but remember her words. Try as he might, he couldnt ignore them . In the end, he says, "Ab main yeh bhi nahi kha sakta"...something like that. Even though she wasnt there and she wouldnt even have known if he had taken the pills, he couldnt disobey her.

Till now, only Ishwari had commanded that kind of submission from him.

For years, he has been addicted to coffee but no one had the guts to stop him. Ishwari did but he hardly listened to her. Only Sona managed to actually reduce his intake of coffee.

Ishwari clearly is not happy with the idea of Natasha and Dev's match but for the sake of his business, she is willing to put her uneasiness aside. Right now, she knows she holds the power to make or break this match. But, later...when Dev will finally start thinking with his heart rather than his mind and the deal goes off because of his feelings for Sona, like you said, it will rock the foundations of the Dixit family.

P.S Love the title of your post!

Thanks for that amazing response! I especially loved the part quoted above.

That's the key I think now, Dev's realisation. Contrary to a lot of sentiments I see around the forum, I strongly believe that Dev developed feelings for Sona a very long time ago. The minute he told her, "I trust you with my mother," I wrote him off as a lattoo gone-case. 😆 For Dev, I don't think there is any greater declaration of love and trust, but as you mentioned, the fact that he even trusts her now with information Ishwari doesn't have is HUGE. That's what I love about this show. It's not at all a youthful romance, but truly about the development of a deep and lasting love between two people, where they truly come to understand and embrace what the other holds dearest.

Ishwar's reaction to Gujral's proposal was very interesting. When she told Mami that this was the biggest decision of Dev's life and he had to take it on his own, it made me curious about what her problem with Sona would be (as per the trailers of the show). I predict that it will be half Ishwar's insecurity at the huge changes that will come upon their family and half Dev's misreading of that discomfort as directly concerning Sona. From what we can see now, Ishwari adores Sona in the abstract but loathes the idea of any woman having a place of importance in Dev's life. How much of her disapproval for Sona herself will come from the fact that she fills that place?

Couldn't agree more, especially on the whole Dev and Natasha thing. By how he interacts with Natasha now, indicates he'll always have this cover, this facade that makes him look strong (not physically but emotionally) but in actuality he isn't. He'll keep pressing things in till the point he breaks. Slowly, but surely that facade is breaking with Sona, and I think it's beautiful how they're showing him opening up his worries and stresses to her, he can't always carry everything around with him. I hope they somehow make him question his actions towards Sone like everyone else does, then start realizing it's not just care, but a liking and comfort. I don't think they should go right for love between them, I hope they first show their realized and accepted attraction towards each other, getting to know each other better, then fall in love, then after a while get married. I hope they show the realistic point that happens in real life, no one just automatically falls in love and gets married, it takes time. I think they have to show more on Dev's friendship angle towards Sona building up into more instead of showing her daydreaming and being sad about him. I think it'll be interesting how he justifies his "friendship" with Sona😆. All in all, I think even if Natasha and Dev got married it wouldn't last, plus I don't think CV's would make such a stupid move of marrying him off for a deal. It'll be too dramatized which I hope never is the case in this show.

@bold: A lot of people on the forum are saying similar things, but I feel like I'm in the minority that is totally happy with the way they are writing both Dev and Sona. The way I see it, all these phases have happened, they just haven't been outlined explicitly. Dev and Sona have had an attraction to each other from pretty early on... at least since that party/dance situation when they shared significant eye-contact. Sona especially has been attracted to Dev long before she would admit it even to herself (biceps, anyone?😉). And they have clearly been friends for a while as well, based on the way they interact with each other and the comfort level they share.

If they haven't articulated their feelings, I think that's because both of them are serious people and wouldn't admit to or indulge in more casual feelings; it's all or nothing. That's why Sona refused to concede even an inch until she was totally, hopelessly, head-over-heels in love with Dev. I think Elena provides a good foil to Sona in that sense. She takes things more lightly and is much happier enjoying the casual interactions with guys -- for her saying you like someone is not a big deal because she acknowledges her feelings when the stakes are still low. Sona didn't even acknowledge her feelings when they were more in "crush" territory and now that she is all in, the high stakes have paralyzed her. I love seeing this vulnerable side to Sona because no matter how level-headed we are, love can always throw us for a toss beyond all rationality!

beautiful post my friend.
you have analysed the dixit family really well, and indeed termed them right, the twisted Dixits ... Bang On!!!

very true, Ranveer and Sona have really penetrated deep into those twisted roots to analyse the root cause of the issues with their respective love interests.

Dev has developed a relationship of trust with Sona, and is willing to show her a side of his which no one else ever see ... a vulnerable side, a glimse of a man who is just human and can get frightened or worried or possibly hurt.

Loving this complex Dev ... He is surely someone to fall in love with - Head over Heels.
