How rude was Vicky in the office, huh? 😡 He is really his mothers son, utterly shameless and arrogant. If he got a manager's post, that means Dev has to create a new department for one guy. 😆 alone.

I really want to see how Dev answers this question today..

Super! Loved your post my dear. 👏
Seriously, in the current times, your points are so valid and universal, not just for daughter in laws but also for everyone else who refuse to be a part of manipulations of rudimentary Indian society.
Following traditions and expressing love and respect is important, but nothing is worth more than your own happiness and self respect.

That is so true. So many of us want to be that perfect bahu. Sona knows Ishwari is insecure and she is trying to put her mind to rest. We have all done that and I see how nicely the show is appealing to various roles in our homes. This has become a pati-patni-saas show 😊

Big fat YES to every one of your points! It's icing on the cake that this heartfelt post comes from your own experiences. I watch this show with my mom and she too faced a hostile/passive aggressive MIL situation for 30 years. Sometimes she goes totally speechless watching because she says it's way too close to home, from the way Sona's trying too hard to fit a square peg into a round hole to the way Ishwari indulges in her special brand of exclusion.

I think the piece of the puzzle that Sona is missing is a genuine trust in Dev. Whatever she says, I don't think she's totally over the breakup yet, and she's trying to singlehandedly "fix" everything before she completely relinquishes control and gives into her love. At least that's my theory for why she hasn't been as gung-ho as Dev on the whole suhaag raat issue. On the one hand, I can't blame her for this mistrust (like father like daughter) but failing to address it, trying to keep her feelings in check and take care of the practical concerns first, she's creating a ticking time bomb of uncontrollable feelings a la Ritwick engagement fiasco! And if rumours are to be believed, it will burst soon in the measiest way 😕

Absolutely. The patch-up was rushed for this very reason I think. Dev never got to growup for Sona to see. The show is depicting this and I think the mother-son symbiotic relationship will hit an all-time low in coming weeks. Worse than it was during the break up track. Because then Dev had a lover, now he has a lawfully wedded wife.

Of course its over the top. This is television. We expect some drama.

I particularly liked how Dev politely answered all of Bijoy's questions. I hope Sons-in-law watching learn something from him. I have to say my husband is the same and I love him for that.

Ishwari represents that insecure mother in law that lives in so many households. I hope the show will raise some questions in the conscience of those women who are messing up with the feelings of their sons on a regular basis.

Excellent piece!!! Agree on every point of yours. Wish Sona uses your letter to her as a cheat sheet in her married life. And would concentrate more on Dev and her life together than 'trying to fit in'. But alas!!! She is forgetting that you can only do so much!!! And these people don't deserve her niceness.
