This episode didn't make sense at all. They just showed Nanda, without mentioning if he was Mahapadma Nanda or Dhana Nanda. Since Mahapadma was a known figure, claimed to be a descendant of a Shishunaga king and an unknown woman of a low class, who killed all his competitors to the throne and ruled Magadha, this Nanda person shown should be Mahapadma, whose son would be Dhana Nanda who would be Nandini's father here.
But the track that Nanda becomes king and Chandragupta born are shown together, it would make sense only if this guy is Dhana Nanda.
And don't even get me started on the who is Durdhara and who is Nandini confusion. I had seen the old Chanakya show on DD where the rivalry-to-love track between Durdhara and Chandragupta was shown, and she was shown as Dhana Nanda's daughter. So I guessed, maybe Nandini is an alias of Durdhara, because she is Nanda's daughter.
But articles about the show mention that there will be Durdhara and Nandini who will be played by separate actors.
As per history, Chandragupta had only one wife, who bore Bindusara and died, due to accidentally consuming poisonous food for Chandragupta, which was being given to him by Chanakya, to steadily make him immune. Seeing she won't survive, Chanakya got the baby delivered prematurely, so that atleast he survives. And after that Chandragupta didn't marry for quite a long time. He married Selucus's daughter Helen when he was probably 40-50, out of a post-war settlement.
If Ekta Maata really wants to have her tried and tested, ek-anaar-do-beemar thing, she will have two seperates, Durdhara and Nandini, and we will have all that irritation we had in Jodha-Akbar.
RIP facts, Hello over-the-top drama. 😆
