Sorry to jump into the convo but in serious note Marriage is the most wonderful thing and life wont be fun without challenges. I never met my MIL before marriage me n my hubby were both in US. I saw my husband with his mom after marriage. But again once u fall in love u r ready to face all the hurdles for him. Again it is hard but dear we r living in 2016 not 1990 anymore and the girls nowadays know how to handle and they dont tolerate these BS from MIL 😊
Looks like i m trying to convince u to get married 😆

Omg thanks for this post. I too wanted to share my personal experience that I had with mIL. There r so many things to share but a few scary ones r she eod come million times to our bedroom while we r sleeping God knows why; she would cook for him only and not for me; she doesn't want him to take me out; she talks bad about my family; I live in the US and fortunately she lives in India but whenever she comes here I get nightmares that I 'll be homeless now. Sorry to say but MILs r horrible they r super jealous and I guess the reason is they didn't get the same love and attention from there hubbies so they get overpossessive about there son's when they know there sons love some other woman more than her, its pretty gross! I guess that's why I m hating the current track since it brings those bad memories back of my MIL mistreating me. I watch this show to relax not to boil my blood.

see you are generalizing things here.. there are good and bad everywhere...now in this thread you read all bad MIL stories but let me tell you about my MIL..she is one of the most loving and caring person I know..she loves me, pampers me and treats me like her own daughter. Yes I am very lucky to have her in my life..and I thank god everyday for giving me not only a wonderful husband but also such a loving family ❤️ When I go back to India, every day my MIL is busy making all my favorite things "beta kya khayegi, yeh bana du wo bana du"..and really I am treated like a princess there just like I am at my mom-dad's place!

So like I said, one should never generalize things. Marriage is wonderful, no greater joy than sharing your happiness, joy and sorrows with your life partner..you will understand this the day you find your soul mate :)

Been through all of it too. it got so bad that my husband started (after 10 years though) reducing my exposure to her, because she was being such a bully and it was a living nightmare for me. He told her politely that he won't bring his family (me and kids) to visit her anymore. he'll come alone, he said.

I told him that I'd be polite to her, but I will not try any more to blend or be friendly. She is old now and it's too late to change her. But her son is stable and happy with me and kids, she had to accept that.

She has driven my BIL and his wife to a bitter divorce. So he told her off not to ruin my marriage too. Thank God for nice people with guts to speak up. So long story short: if you love the guy it's worth it , eventually...

not all MILs are bad. you just need to research your in laws better before marriage! 😆 .. Either choose a guy who'd really be a good partner to you.. or ask your parents to do extra research on the in laws 😉..

Love is worth it. A life long companion, plus minus kids in our life journey brings so much fulfilment. don't be disheartened by some scary stories.

With every hardship there is relief.
