According to history king ashok, popularly known as chand ashok was deeply affected by the destruction and blood loss of kalinga war
This les him to adopt Buddhism nd he became dharm ashok
But Cas ashok is nothing like the historical one .
He has not done anything in last five months that will show that he is chand
Instead he has always come across as a nice person
Somebody who is always high on moral values
He is so good that he make sures that the last rite of the person who killed his mother is done nicely
So when this ashok is not chand then what is the need of kalinga war
Instead they can show that ashok was deeply saddened because he killed his brother nd destroying chanda s life
Hence he adopts bhuddism
That way even chanda will get a chance to give a long bhashan
