Reality shows may be The thing or The in thing in India today. However, the results so far prove that we, the Indian public are easily swayed by peripheral things like looks, youth and parorchial issues.
We are led by our emotions, not necessarily by our heads which can perceive what is real. The concept of a reality show, as the name itself suggets, is about what is real. If we knew what it was, our country would be a true democracy where we can choose the most deserving leaders without being pressurised by goons, where rules aren't made to be bent for certain people, where if one does the crime, one has to do the time, no matter who they are. Where even the leader of the country can be questioned and where everything is transparent., where talent is judged and rewarded correctly.
In India, everthing is topsy turvy...it's what makes it unique and at the same time an incorrigible place.
Thus, a reality show can never be one here. A winner is judged by various criteria, the least of which is talent. Many of the music reality shows have chosen the wrong winners. In many cases, it was anti-women.
For us, it's very important whether a contestent is young, pretty, handsome, fair skinned etc. Where he or she hails from is also a vital factor. So, u have one contestant appeal to Gujarat, another to Maharastra, yet another to punjab as though the rest of the country doesn't exist. South India ke barey to pucho maath! Coz, there are no contestants from there....and if there's one, they don't acknowledge that.
That's India and reality for you!
Don't get me wrong. I love my India and can't think of living anywhere else. But what is fact is fact.
