Top shot director Karan Johar's close friendship with Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan is legendary. It only then seems natural that he would launch their strapping young son - Aryan Khan - as and when the occasion arrives. Ask him if that could be a probability and Karan replies, "Aryan is young. He has four years of university left (reportedly Aryan's attending the film school at the University of Southern California - USC). After that he'll decide what he wants. Right now, one shouldn't burden him with anything. I've told him that if he ever decides to do movies I have to be part of his launch. I'll force myself into that because I love Aryan," he says animatedly. "He's my godchild. I've seen him growing up. He is as old as my career. He was born after the first schedule of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai on November 12, 1997. For me Aryan is beyond films. He's more than family to me," he shares getting sentimental.


He's the Midas Man. Anything that Karan touches turns to gold. Even when he launches newcomers like Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra as in Student Of The Year (SOTY). Naturally, aspirants vie for a break with him. Ask him whether there are plans to launch Shahid Kapoor's brother Ishaan Khattar in the near future and he says succinctly, "There are a lot of stories circulating. I don't want to confirm anything officially because when things happen, the announcement will be made." Karan has a way with the youngsters. The 40-plus director believes in remaining relevant and staying connected to the young and restless. "Dharma Productions will launch three or four strong newcomers. I take a lot of care when I launch them. It's not that I leave their hand after their first film. I hold on to them, I nurture them. So the children I don't have biologically I have vis a vis my films. I worry about everything they do on a daily basis. I still talk to Varun, Sidharth and Alia every day. What they are doing, what they are feeling, what they are going to sign, what they should sign. So, whoever I launch, I will give 100 per cent of my time to them," says he.


The demographic of 16-25 comprises the biggest chunk of moviegoers. The director understands this and says, "I don't want to be irrelevant to them. I'm young in my head and heart. I want to make content that appeals to them. I know exactly what they wear, what music they hear and what language they use. I connect with the generation. I understand their angst." Karan's much-hyped love saga Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM) is slated to release on October 28. It has the stellar cast of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan.
