I was reading the upcoming spoilers of the show where Dev breaks into Sona's engagement and injures himself (Brilliant move I must say. If you have to get injured, do it where not one but two doctors are present to fix you up.)
So today I will talk about expectations.

Ishwari has very colourful vocabulary to describe people as objects. Sona's love is Barsati Naala who put dirty spots in her Ujala brightened rag, Dev, she uses to mope all her family's issues and wipe her feet on. Her expectations are Dev will have to continue to pay for HER decision to give all her other children's opportunities to Dev.

Dev's expectations are that he will continue to be his mother's favourite child so that people can keep calling him Shravan Kumar. He will spend his life running around doing his family's bidding and Sona will run around doing his. She has to live alone for the rest of her life pining for him because she loves him even through it was HIS decision to break up.

(Notice how both mother and son put the responsibility for THEIR decisions on others who had no say in the decision?)

Sona might have a family, but they are not important for Dev. Only his family, his wish, his feelings are important. But that's okay. How many men in India gives a damn about their wife's family anyway. But all is forgiven because he sacrificed for his mummy. You know in India, a good, obedient son trumps everything.

Sona's expectations were very straight forward. She wanted the marriage her parents has with the man she loves and the relationship with her mother in law like her mother has with her Dida. But Dev is not a strong man like Bijoy and Ishwari is not like her Dida... So when he broke her heart, she decided to move on. Now all she wants to be is in a safe bubble where even Dev's name can't reach her until she has time to heal.

All Sona's family want is Sona like she was before her heart got broken. The dreamer with the cheerful smile that lit up her eyes. Not the broken shell of a girl who Dev treated like used tissue paper. They don't want to even let Dixit family in 100 km radius of Sona.

Now Let's talk about my expectations

When I saw the initial promos of the show, I thought it would be a story of a couple who by MUTUAL agreement decide to separate yet stay connected and faithful to each other. There was an old Rajshree movie on that starring Sonu Sood and Isha Kopikar called Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi (Notice the similarities in the titles?)

In that story the heroine had responsibility of her family so she and the man she loves decides to separate, but they still stay together where the guy help her fulfill all her responsibilities and when all her responsibilities are done, they marry.

My expectations were that this story will go that way where Dev and Sona will MUTUALLY decide to separate but Sona will continue to remain his partner in every sense.

But that's not how it went. Dev dumped Sona. He not only broke his relationship, he broke her trust in him and in love. Then he fired her insulting her professional dignity. If a supporting character had done it to Sona or even Nikki, they would be labeled villain of the story. But Dev is a hero so we try to make excuses for him.

Now after he broke up, when Sona decided to move on, Dev started to stalk her while pretending to be innocent little boy in front of mummy. Kind of like the boys who eve teases girls on the road but when their parents ask, they say that those girls were asking for it by deciding to wear provocative clothes. You know just like Sona is asking for Dev to stalk her and call her by making the wrong decision to marry someone else. And like all those blind doting mummys, we are making excuses for Dev because he is the hero.

When Sona threatened to go to his mummy, he decided to lie to his mother that he will not call Sona but instead physically showed up at her engagement injured where two doctors are present, one trapped by her love and the other by duties of his profession. But actually telling his mother of his love and asking for another chance from Sona and show her that he will place her equal to himself and his family with all honour and dignity? Nope. That would be treating a woman with respect. Why would he do that when he can sneak around and mimic the action of a cheating husband with his mistress?

Again, if anyone else had treated a woman like Dev, we'd call him first rate jerk. But he is the hero. So let the excuses continue.

And what's with this mother and son duo? They blackmail and manipulate like some people breathe.

Dev manipulated Sona to become his mom's nutritionist.

His mother blackmailed him to break up and still continues to do so.

He is now blackmailing Sona to break up her marriage in the guise of doing her a favour so that she doesn't make a mistake. That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

At least the mistake will be her decision. Even if her marriage fails, unlike Ishwari, she won't mope and cling and become emotionally damaged. She will lead a successful life with her family's support. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going and Sona is a strong woman.

And who told him that she won't ever love Ritwik. Forever is a long time. Ritwik has all the qualities (that we have seen so far) that can make Sona fall in love with him eventually. If they are willing to take that risk, what's it to him?

When he agreed to marry Natasha, did he love her? So why would Sona has to fall in love with Ritwik before she marries him?

She didn't even get engaged to him until he started to interfere in their business. May be she would have been happy to have a long engagement. But because of his obsession, she is marrying in a hurry. So actually it is Dev who forced Sona to take the wrong decision IF it is indeed a wrong decision. Looking at how messed up Dev and his family is, it is looking like the right decision.

But then again, Dev is the hero. So some people will keep white washing him and continue to find excuses. May be Ishwari would be happy to lend her Ujala glasses to properly view her white washed son's blinding brilliance.

Brilliant post!!!
Ishwari and Dev are actually master manipulators. After all the bull crap Dev put Sonakshi thru, if he really "loved" her, he should leave her to lead her own life. I think Mama has been influenced by GKB-he is playing up to both Ishwari and Dev and giving himself a sure spot in the middle of their relationship.

Brilliant post my friend!
I am all for love. the kind that respects and gives back. A girl does not always have to be the stepping platform for a guy to have life lessons. I can totally see Ritwik and Sona make it work, in fact they'd be an awesome couple based on honesty and mutual understanding, ego free. (what we've seen of him at least)

Dev had to pick her as a priority and tell her. Stop hiding and loving her from the shadows. Go up to Bijoy (who liked Dev a lot previously) and ask for her hand. Say sorry for hurting her so much and promise you'd never do it again.

I expected that he wouldn't be such a wuss. If he can feel that intense jealousy, then he can do all that he can to get her back. Not just "stop the wedding"

That's fine. You can certainly disagree with me. But could you elaborate what I did not mention regarding Dev's condition? As I understand his condition is fine. No one is making his life hell except his own decisions and actions. Whatever happens to his life is completely in his control. Being honest with his mother about his feelings, asking for forgiveness and getting Sonakshi back, living life at his own will are ALL in his control. But then he will have to man up which he refuses to do. Sorry my dear. Beyond having his cake and eat it too, I don't know what to see in Dev's condition.

So on point. Perfectly summed up.
People who're questioning TM about not talking about Dev's plight should know that Dev took the decision of breaking up, he himself decided to suffer so the point of sympathising with him is moot.

Ishwari is the most selfish mother I've ever seen. Whenever she sees Dev's mind wavering from her worship, she takes the chance to emotionally blackmail him with the past hardships she faced for her children. Yes she suffered a lot but using it as a weapon to manipulate your own children is the worst thing a parent can do.

Lastly, I don't understand why Dev and Ishwari have been portrayed as strong people with a hard past? Both of them are weak, insecure, indecisive and manipulative. If someone is strong then it's Sona and Neha. They take a stand. They stick to their beliefs.

Neha always knew her mother's possessive nature where her son is considered. That's why she kept rebelling until she got married. But now she is no longer an witness to this mother and son's daily drama. So she doesn't trouble them anymore.

Brilliant post.👏👏

Ishwari-The Ishwari with whom the show started has completely disappeared. The one who sweetly offered food prepared by her to Sona and treated her like a human. She was always shown possessive about Dev but it has crossed all levels of obsession and it has become impossible to relate to her insecurity though I admit even the earlier versions of insecurity were difficult to digest for me.She is indeed a master manipulator, a true chameleon. She knows exactly what to say to make Dev and mamaji dance to her tunes. She very cleverly disguises her failure as a mother towards her daughters with her apparent extra love and attention towards Dev to manipulate him and remind him to never forget his place, i.e at his mother's beck and call. She uses her crocodile tears to manipulate her brother.

Dev- I had such high hopes from this character. His words and promises to Sona were so sweet but so hollow. He was unable to act on even one of them. I accepted the harsh break up as a thoughtless reaction to a stressful situation but the continued ignorance and denial of his own mistakes and false promises are certainly a let down. To prove his loyalty and love towards his mother and thank her for her love, he is trampling on Sona's respect, her love and her value. On top of that, instead of either standing up for his love or letting her go and wish her happiness, he is standing an obstacle. His stalker behaviour as correctly pointed out by both Sona and her father is a crime which can never be the solution to any problem, let alone one which he created himself. Instead of acting on his Mamaji's words, he only finds them an encouragement for his wrong behaviour. How can he consider her decision to marry for her family's happiness (according to him) wrong when he, himself is doing all for his mother. Does only his great mother deserve that? The mother who is not happy in his son's happiness vs Sona's family who care only about her happiness.

He moves one step forward when denies to eat the food prepared by her mother and moves 2 steps back when he comes crying back and apologising at her feet, thus reinstating her position as God

The road to their redemption is gonna be a very difficult one cos their actions are not so easy to forgive, forgetting is not even possible.

Sona- She has always been a pillar of strength. She always knew how to take a stand for what is right and continues to do so. Her decision to marry does not make her weak, it just proves that she knows that she deserves to be happy and that she is willing to try to find that happiness with a person who has been so understanding and respectful to her. Questioning her on whether she will leave Ritwik if he has flaws by some is baseless cos she never left Dev due to his flaws but was forced out of his life by him. What was her choice? To pine endlessly for someone who will never commit to her, who will never go against his mother , who will fall apart at the first signs of trouble OR to walk away with her dignity and self respect and try to move on with someone who she may not love at the moment but who she can see herself being happy with and fall for after some time.

@rose4ever
The reason I am constantly pointing out Dev's behaviour is because I never want any woman to think that what he is doing is any way decent or respectable behaviour. Jealousy sometimes comes with love. But in a healthy relationship, there is no place of possessive behaviour because people are not possessions. They have their choices and wishes, hopes and dreams. Regardless of how much you love them or they love you, you can't treat adult human beings as an extension to your will.

Dev let Sona go and she left. She respected his stance even though she didn't agree with it or happy about it. But even after the break up, she didn't blame him for choosing his mother over her. She only blamed him for not talking to her and trying to find alternate solution together as true partners do.

But what Dev is doing is utter disregard of her wishes. He is treating her as his property whom he can pick up and discard at will. How disrespectful to her dignity.

Because he is the hero, being a stalker, lying to his family, playing with a girl's life are somehow okay.
