Mother

She closed her eyes. Things were getting beyond her control. She blinked back the unbidden tears, and hitched a smile onto her face. Walking out of the room, and into the living room, she sat, shyly, as a would-be bride, her gaze down.

No one knew, her heart and her soul belonged elsewhere. Her mind drifted to her mother. Physically apart. Mentally together. This time, her smile was genuine. She could have sworn she felt a hand squeezing hers comfortingly.
