For some films, predicting the box office fate is too easy. AKIRA is one such film!
The buzz is extremely low. Let's face it, the Indian audience hasn't been very receptive to films which are based on a female lead doing action. Films like JAI GANGAJAL and GULAB GANG come to mind. I haven't even read any critic reviews yet, but I can already tell what this film's box office fate will be.
The last time Sonakshi Sinha and director AR Murugadoss came together was HOLIDAY, but that film had Akshay Kumar as the male lead. Take out Akshay, and you can take out 100 crores of the 116 crore lifetime that HOLIDAY collected 😆 All you're left with is 16 crores, which is actually what AKIRA may end up collecting in its lifetime.
Like HOLIDAY, AKIRA may actually get some appreciation-from public and/or critics. But, that won't do anything to change the general disinterest that the public probably has for this film. I bet that many people probably don't even know that this film exists!
My Box Predictions for AKIRA:
Opening Day: 2 crores net
Opening Weekend: 8 crores net
Lifetime Collections: 16 crores net
Overall Box Office Verdict: Disaster
