Abhijeet's Biggest Challenge: Singing in English
Saturday, December 8th, 2007 by krisandresIndian Idol Abhijeet Sawant is in full gear as he joins five other Idols across Asia for Asian Idol. He considers his trip to Jakarta as his honeymoon with long-time girlfriend Shilpa Edwankar, whom he married last December 3 (Congratulations!).
His biggest concern, though, does not involve winning the bragging rights–and lots of prizes to boot–as the First Asian Idol. "I'm not comfortable singing in English (especially) in front of a huge audience," he told The Times of India's Ranjib Mazumder.
To brush up his English, Abhijeet hired a coach who trains him to speak and sing the foreign language with the right accent.
But beyond the language barrier, the first Indian Idol is proud in bringing his country's unique musical style to a broader audience. "Indian music is very big for me," he said during the interview featured in "Road to Asian Idol". "I've always learned Indian music and treat it with full respect. I hope Indian music reaches out to more people through Asian Idol."
Will Abhijeet Sawant be able to overcome his challenge? Let's find out as he tries to outshine the others and excel in Asian Idol, the Biggest Show in Asia! Check out this site's Schedule section for local listings in India.
