@beagle - but why should it not break the relationship? it was because of his stories that he lost out on a mother and it is because of that man's insecurities that he lost out on a lover. it should affect him deeply, no?
whom can he trust after that? and why should anyone trust him (shravan) after this? what assurance can he give that he would successfully undo his deep rooted trust issues and never flip again?

so in that respect - ramnath has not only affected shravan's entire belief system but has made sure shravan does not remain trustworthy too to others.

Ramnath is his father, he loves and respects him and leans on him because, the way he sees it, his father was the last solider standing supporting him, protecting him- the general having left the battlefield. So, yes it will come as a shock. And it will pierce like the thorn that has gone into his foot but refuses to come out. But it will not break him - because along with that truth he will learn another truth, an all important one that haunted him all his life- that his mother did not leave him, and that sumo was always by his side. This will give him the power to deal with Ramnath's betrayal. And from what I have seen and understood of Shravan and the story, it will not end the father son relationship. It will sour the relationship and create a distance, but it will not break it.

Thanks for the response...
The narrative has been direct in this respect...about his feelings for Ram.. Our observations have told us a different story. However, us saying that Shravan is more influenced by Sumo and Nir is certainly based on the influence of Sumo (which is greater than Nir although Niru is the basic cause of him having issues) but let's not trivialise Ram's role in Shravan's life...He and Nir have contributed to diff problems in his personality. So..my question was rhetorical in that sense to suggest that CVs will always trivialise one conflict
to highlight another...as for a narrative, we have been shown that Shravan valued Ram not abandoning him. (which is rather sad becos it shows a person who always worried that all his loved ones will not find him worthy enuf to stick on)

@quirky- our entire lives can be spent in hate, but what do we gain? Where does that lead us? Zilch. Nowhere. We lose a lot more than we gain in hate. We emerge spent and defeated, fatigued. Shravan has lived a life mired in misunderstandings, whether inflicted by his father or otherwise. In his adolescence and into his adulthood his joys were laced with bitterness and sunshine reached him but through a shaded screen. This time it will be different because severing ties with Ramnath will still cause him the pain he has always known throughout his life. Ramnath's biggest punishment will be the loss of respect and prestige his son currently has for him. His place on the pedestal will be lost and the place and regard Shravan associates with him will be lost. THAT will be his punishment. Breaking ties with Ramnath will only hurt Shravan further and will serve no purpose.

Not at all trivializing Rams role in Shravan's life. To me the question is not one of influence and who has had a greater impact on his life. To me, it is the emotional connect. His flashbacks show a camaraderie with Nirmala that is lacking in his interactions with Rmanath. father and. Son are always shown to share their pain and bitteness. And Ramntah always brings up Nirmala, his role as a sole parent, sacrifices to bind Shravan to him. All of us, while we love our parents equally are emotionally dependent on one. I always call my mother, never my father. And yet, I'm my daddy's girl and his influence on my life has prevented me from doing many things. So, Shravan's emotional anchor is Nirmala and when she left he had little control over his emotions and everything in his life spiraled out of control. When that balance returns to his life, he will be able to act maturely and in a measured way, something that he has lost now. At the moment he is lost in the woods without a torch and he has been for 10 long years.

they will be playing out suman earlier dialogue (jeevan track) - "tum bhi yahi ho, mahi yahi hoon - ekdin main tumhe ehsaas dilayungi ke har aurat matlabi nahin hoti hai"

and yes - in the process they will trivialize a problem as deep as mysoginy - cured by a mere best case example πŸ‘ - don;t think CVs understand the gravity of the problem shravan has i guess.

because what the guy mouthed today about women-bedroom-payment etc in one breath is a culmination of things beyond a simple revelation of some key truths.

today showed that Shravan does have cancer - and its not sumo - and it needs chemotherapy.

Couldn't agree more! Shravan's perception of women is so utterly skewed...that it really angers me a whole lot. The cancer has metastasized aggressively...no amount of chemo or radio therapy will be able to completely eradicate it...because a few cancerous stem/seed cells will always remain...ready to take over him when the time comes!

I just wished the CVs did not take this concept of misogyny to such an extreme level. First because these things should not be glorified on TV...second because this is the Indian TV industry...where the narratives are usually shalllow and CVs conveniently scratch the surfaces of pressing societal issues never attempting to dig deep mostly due to trps!

At the end of the day...every story is the same...guy is a weirdly extreme character...girl is devi ki murat...lots of fights, misunderstandings in the beginning...then guy realizes how wrong he has been...followed by some frivolous redemption track and then hallelujah...devi is after all devi...so she forgives and couple gets together. THE END!! La la!

Puba,

Couldn't have said this any better...

@bold Absolutely...and when by and large the female characters they portray are not any shining examples of supporters of gender equality. For instance...the issue of self-respect on the marriage expenses reeked of poor understanding of the issue in the first place. Why should the bride's side consider it a matter of pride or self respect to pander to the demands of the groom side...😑 and take on all expenses of the marriage. Is marriage not about two individuals so why should only the bride's family pay for it? whats the false pride on the issue? nanu declaring Kaminiji...just name the place...almost sounded like Just name the price...πŸ˜‰ I declared him a MCP then...πŸ˜†

@red...I feel its is some sort of revenge for the skewed situation in real life...πŸ˜†πŸ˜† by Ekta and her ilk... all male characters reduced to "redemption tracks" πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

@bold: you are right...maybe it is sort of a revenge on reality...and that is why men are depicted as mere struggling laborers trying their hands at redemption and women...idols of dumb perfection! πŸ˜†
