Idealism vs Realism

Firstly I am new here, my name is Neet and this is my first topic post on this forum. I thought yesterday's episode raised some interesting ideas which I thought were worth sharing and discussing with you guys.

I think yesterday's episode brought an interesting dynamic between both the brothers that I only wish grows further from now on. Shivaay and Omkara are two very different beings and it is high time that their difference should be put on that table for a much-needed discussion. The conversation they both shared after Om finding out about Ridhima's lie was refreshing because it seemed logic wasn't actually being thrown out the window.

Even Anika's initial comments on being a privileged child, and the luck it brings to one's life was applause worthy. Though I have to admit Shivaay made sense wanting full name details for a cheque, which should have been reasonably responded to because he did ask genuinely. Anika's come back was fiery and much needed, except it was misplaced because Shivaay had not asked in a demeaning manner. But for me, it was what this conversation paved way for that brought excitement, which was the conversation between Om and Shivaay.

I would probably classify Om as an idealist while Shivaay is clearly the realist, they both are clearly on each side of the extremes of these positions. But their conversation was actually making sense yesterday which is what made me happy. The real value of name and family and how one uses it to define themselves by either accepting or rejecting it was an important position to stand on. I think it was important to start showing that there is an inherent difference between these two brothers and what they stand for in life, especially for Om who has to battle with his father's looming shadow over him. In a way I also felt that this would eventually become a much bigger issue between the brothers and today it was a little insight into this debate they both would share. Also I am quite glad that Om has had a consistent reaction towards his own father, because it is infuriating that the house has openly accepted Svetlana but only Om seems to be the one to have a problem with her? Rudra is a fully grown man and it doesn't bother him, and Priyanka is almost non-existent within her own house so her opinion of her father clearly carries no weight. It is just difficult to see Janhvi forgetting all the years her husband carried this extra-marital affair on for and yet only one of her children has a problem with it. Omkara being an idealist can be understood, but his brother Rudra and sister Priyanka who are both fully grown adults that still seem to have a need to be coddled by their father?

I am sorry for that rant at the end, but what do you guys think of this build up between Om and Shivaay Idealism vs Realism ?

Thanks Guys
Neet

Totally agree with you. It's a wonderful equation they share. And may be that's why they go to each other for advice. Because when one has a problem, the other one gives a completely different perspective to him. This helps them to see if sometimes they are wrong. If it will create a drift within them is quite a question. As for Priyanka, she is far more focused on her anxieties. May be her anxieties are her reaction to her parents' broken marriage. But her father is too involved in his mistress & her mother in the sorrow of her husband having a mistress to care for her anxieties . Rudra basically covers his reaction under all the funny exterior. It might be different but this is what I think.

I think you're right about the anxiety issues, that both of them seem to cover up everything with these issues they suffer from. I like to think both Om and Shivaay as each other's check and balance, always trying to correct each others path. I just hope we get to see more of this serious sides to both of them more often.

Hi Neet. You have put forward good points.

I think Om is an idealist to a certain degree, but his abhorrence to being lied to stems from something that has happened in the past. It's unlikely to be just a character trait I think.

Shivaay, while being a realist, also appears to feel the need to box people in rigidly defined categories. His ego makes him unable to accept views and thoughts other than what he already believes.

Both of them are hindered in life by this I feel. While their thinking is different, their underlying love and respect for each other will help in dealing with it, I hope.

Anika carries a huge chip on her shoulder about her past. And this colours her thinking, her actions. Her over reaction to Shivaay asking for her surname, was the result of an amalgamation of that and of his accusations and taunts over their previous encounters.

All of them carry baggages of their past. Seeing how they resolve their issues will be interesting to see.

I think that is well said, i hope the past is presented really well and justifies their behaviour and continues actions. It will be an interesting ride for sure exploring all these themes because they have some great ideas on that table to discuss. I just wish they don't dilute them, that is the only thing that worries me.
