Haha thanks I understand your sentiments because seeing all the (for lack of a better word) phonies out there it frustrates me to no end. These guys just workout for a bit at some big box gyms and then get employed by said gyms as trainers but have no idea how to train people.
If you ever get yourself a trainer, it's best to do your research. Ask them about their educational background and where they got certified from. It's not just about making workout plans or teaching exercises; people need trainers who will keep them on track otherwise generally people have difficulty adhering to workouts. They even act as "counsellors." Also, for some more shameless self promotion, mine was a combined university degree with psychology then went on to college for a diploma in fitness promotion along with obtaining my (nationally and internationally recognized) certs. The psychology aspect of training is really important for me.
So yeah I completely get your resistance to trainers (pun unintended).
