My father does astrology as a hobby, and I can say one thing for sure.

There is no difference between astrology and fate. One's fate is written the day they are born, and a horoscope (when read accurately) tells exactly what will happen in fate. The horoscope is nothing something created by the astrologer. He is simply reading what God has already written.

When it comes to marriage, whether one's marriage will be a good or bad one is already predetermined like the rest of a person's life. Whether they end up having arranged or love marriage, horoscope is written and cannot be changed.

Why then do people try to control horoscopes?

When it comes to parents of the bride and groom, they just want their children to be happy so they try to find the best match possible. So whether it is arranged or love marriage, they try to match the horoscopes in the hope that their child has a good life.

However, if it is written in one's fate that they'll have a bad marriage, or they'll suffer the death of a spouse, or they'll suffer abuse in marriage, etc, then there is nothing parents can do.

The horoscope is not something the astrologer comes up with. It is fate as written by God, and a horoscope should be taken as guidance to lead life fruitfully, but if something is predetermined, then it is not the fault of the astrologer, or the parents, or the children.

Fate is determined by one's karma, so the best thing to do is to lead a good karmic life so that in this life, or the next one, we live a good life.

@janaki fate may not change, but the path to reach the fate we can choose through our actions. If you choose the path, there will be much more peaceful acceptance of fate is my take.
Path is as much important as the end. Have your eyes on the goal and allow the path to open up. You will reach the goal with much peace of mind.

Shruthi you have set the platform for a very intense discussion and all contributors have taken it forward with the perspectives expressed.
The horoscopes are cast based on the planetary locations at the given time. I wonder does it hold good when parents choose C section at a specific time or to babies born in other time zones. There seems some confusion in my mind over this.
If we assume we all arrive with an opening balance called Prarabtha and a current account called Purushartha what happens is the result of the action and the mitigation by these two factors.
The matching of the gunas leads to a peaceful compatible life it is said. There are occasional disruption in happenings leading to problems as the ill effects cant be entirely mitigated by the positive karma we have.
The movement of the planets also contribute to the changing consequences and circumstances we face. Factors cloud our sense of reasoning.
The compatibility factors gives the duo strength to face which individually they may have been unable to do.
Look at the way in which Mandodari keeps warning Ravan . He is in the self destructive mode so he ignores her every suggestion and ends up where he does.
If we look at the epics to convey a message we need to understand that in the evolutionary journey to become a Buddha or reach enlightenment, one has to face struggles at an individual level. Later the struggle becomes social and one reaches the state of awareness. While one reaches that level as an individual the forces around operate, influence and leads to all round destruction which is indicated by Kalki.
Maybe the cycle will then recommence.

@vidya yes it is the play of debit and credit which is decided by your karma. To offset certain debits, we have to pay greater credits, that is the struggle. Some calamities cannot be prevented entirely, but its effects can be reduced based on your credits.
When it is hus-wife their credits and debits are together. One affecting the other. And the kids take forward the credits as well as debits of the parents.
If we can give something to our kids give them the best karma credit, so atleast they don't suffer much for our mistakes. But mostly parents give physical credits, but the karma debits make the child suffer.
