There are various things to do attached to culture or traditions that if evaluated doesn't make sense or are portrayal of biasing.

Should such things be followed by folks, who assumably know it doesn't make sense but just for the heck of following traditions or self interest, they do?

There are many such thingo's to list down, please refer instance you know.

Well... I think its OK if done to please your elders to give them a reason to smile or give them some mental satisfaction...

But there are many other senseless customs that we'd rahter not have... For instance, menstruating women are expected not to enter to Temples or perform Puja. In some households they are confined to a single room and are considered "impure".
That might have made sense 100 years back for reasons of hygeine... But I see no logic in that given its the 21st Century and we have proper means of manitaining Hygiene.... Those Sanitary Napkins are not advertised on television for nothing!!

Just a clarification, they were not confined to a single room, it's the kitchen they're barred from. The rest of the part I agree with you.

One custom I never understood, washing the feet of the elder or guru and drinking that water. I don't know if it's followed anywhere anymore, but it's so disgusting and how could the guru or elder have allowed that.🤢

The entire house is banned except for a room which serve for this purppose and act as a place for the woman just delivered a child A newly delivered mother is also treated as impure upto 25 years back,I still remember my younger aunt who suffered all these. It changed with me in my house, since my father(not mother she is still so religious) cared me a lot

Please see in bold. That means at the time of menstruating a room in a house is only accommodating the girl and that room also accommodated the women of the house after delivery since they are considered as impure for eleven days.

This reminds me about my dear grandma who was very religiuos, would wake up at 4.30 am , have a bath, get ready and do pooja for 2 hrs and looked fresh as a mountain apple when the rest of the family woke up. It certainly makes one's day start out bright when we see someone not in their pj's till 11am , face and hair messed up. Anyway the point I was trying to make was that she would have a bath again later in the day if she had to use the lavaratory for bowel movement. Speaking of hygiene , it totaly makes sense to me today.😊

Maybe it was different in our culture. As far as I know in earlier days menstruating women were not allowed in the kitchen. I won't argue on this, since you're a woman and will know better.
