Sorry ladies to hijack your post, but i always say, its always good to have a male voice (of reason ;)) during marriage discussions.
I personally love everything Indian, so that naturally includes marrriages. For me i think its because the mystery involved in marriages. Let's face it, apart from the ppl getting married and their immediate family, not many of us know who the groom/bride is gonna be or how their family is gonna be right?? So its a nice way to meet your would be SIL/BIL etc etc.
I haven't been to that many weddings (well the truth is there haven't been that many weddings in my family for the past 5-6 years), but last year when i did attend a wedding of a distant rellie, i had the most fun i ever did, especially being on the bride's side, its more work, but its hellova lot more fun!!!
The best incident i can remember (sorry to take you all down memory lane, but i find this really funny, and scary at the same time), was the night before the wedding. Usually in South Indian weddings, the groom's side arrives the night before, and he is "introduced" to the bride's side (who are already there at the wedding hall). Anyway, that afternoon, we realised that one of the bulbs in the groom's quarters was gone...after further inspection, it was known that the fuse wire went off. Know with me being an engineering student, i "hired" two of my other cousins and my uncle to see what we could do. We were told that the baarat was arriving at around 5PM, so at around 3PM we decided to do what we thought was a 30 min job. To my horror, we found that the entire fuse wire had gone and i needed to buy some new ones. unfortunately, no electrical stores nearby. so i got cpl of ppl to go get some wires, which took 1 HOUR...we finally got started at around 4:30 leaving what we thought was 30 mins to get this done. However, like with most things, this took WAY longer...and with each minute passing after 5, we were getting anxious abt the baarat coming and finding the lights not working. To cut a long story short, i can still remember walking out of the room, with nothing but shorts and a t-shirt on, and finding that the groom's family had just come upstairs, and everyone was dressed in their best clothing....that was funny and scary...i never laughed soo much after that!!!!
Anyway bewafa (sorry don't know ur real name), good luck with ur HSC...what subjects are u doing?? Where do u plan to go 2uni and what subjects u planning to do?? Nice to see some indians living in aus in this forum...
