A lovely dialogue from Shravan when a justifiably frustrated Suman asks him why he's so interested in looking for a groom for her- "Yeh mera haq bhi hai, aur zimmedari bhi".I found that to be a very interesting line in the context of the present track, and the series as a whole.
Shravan has always been somewhat of an unassuming and unconditional lover. Even in the throes of first love, in his teens, his letter to Suman didn't presume an acceptance. He doesn't impose his love on her, does things without asking anything in return, and is content to love her from a distance. Many a time, I feel that even these ten years of maturing into a handsome, hotshot lawyer hasn't done enough to assure Shravan that he is worthy of her. He regresses into the geeky, scrawny Shravan who demonstrated his quiet devotion for his friend in a number of ways in his teens, content to receive a few scraps of attention from her in return.
Even in this track, when Suman is angry and suspicious of his intentions, he quietly went about his duty, his zimmedari. To keep her happy, to bring her back to being his fighter Sumo, her vibrant, cheerful self. When his mission was accomplished, he went away without asserting his presence in her life again, because he feels that Suman is disappointed with him and doesn't want him in her life again. He fulfills his responsibilities, but doesn't assert his "haq". Their friendship has problems, as he himself put it, and he also has the added consciousness that all he feels for her is not entirely friendship. He doesn't want to saddle her with the emotional baggage of his life, so he just leaves her be.
The only time he wanted to assert his "haq"- the almost proposal scene- things ended badly for him. And I feel as if he doesn't want a reprise again.
On the contrary, Suman, with her knowledge of his feelings for her at least in the past, is much more assertive when it comes to her place in his life. She barges into his room without knocking, symbolic of the confidence she exudes with respect to her position in his life. She takes important life-changing decisions for him, such as planning to bring his mother back into his life again, without due reflection and introspection. She is annoyed at the lack of acknowledgement from his side and needles him in her own ways, such as planning his marriage alliance in revenge😆
The way I see it, Suman is the one who must step up now. Shravan has amply demonstrated his quiet devotion and unconditional love through his tender care in this track. He promised to be by her side for a lifetime, I can't think of anything else a guy can promise a girl❤️ But he is afraid of the repercussions that his emotional baggage might have on her, of a friendship that might be lost in the process of securing love. It's for Suman to prove herself now, making sure that she and Shravan reclaim their "haq" over each other, and their destiny, in the process. This might be the biggest zimmedari of all for Suman.
