Unspoken Love

Chapter 58
Lavanya was walking past Arnav's room. She knew Arnav was not in his room. She went in and searched for the card she had made for Arnav. The card had fallen under the bed and Arnav never saw it. Lavanya's eyes watered as she picked up the card. She was about to tear the card in frustration but she changed her mind. She went to her room and kept the card safely in her cupboard. She couldn't hold back the tears in her eyes. She sat on the bed, crying... cursing her fate. But now she knew that Arnav's happiness was with Khushi. She composed herself and wiped her tears. Standing before the mirror, she made sure she was looking fine, and then walked out of her room.
The house was quiet except for a few low voices. Though it was 2 AM, everyone was awake. The atmosphere was mixed with a variety of feelings - there was happiness on one hand but sadness on the other. The air in the Raizada Mansion was filled with joy, sorrow, satisfaction, anxiety, jealousy, disappointment and what not!
As Lavanya walked through the passage, she saw Akash, Payal and Aman engaged in some serious discussion. She was about to go in and join but her father's voice captured her attention. Lavanya walked to the hall to see Ajinkya fighting for his daughter's happiness. Anup and Nilima felt very sorry for what had happened. They completely understood Ajinkya's position and they knew what Lavanya must be going through at the moment. Things had become complicated. Lavanya saw Arnav standing silently in the garden, all alone, lost in his thoughts. She wiped her wet eyes, took a deep breath and walked to her father. Ajinkya, Anup and Nilima suddenly stopped their discussion on seeing Lavanya come there.
Trying to act normal, Lavanya said, "Arey! Why did you all suddenly stop speaking? And why are you all staring at me like that? I am not a ghost!" she said laughing, to make the mood lighter. The others were not sure how to react. Lavanya smiled and said, "Anyways, I have decided something..."
Nilima and Anup exchanged glances and Ajinkya looked at his daughter waiting to know what she had decided.
Trying to control her tears with great difficulty, Lavanya declared, "I don't want to marry Arnav...!"
Everyone was stunned to hear this.
"What are you saying beta?!!" said Ajinkya in surprise.
"Exactly what you heard Papa...!" said Lavanya. "I have thought over it Papa... My marrying Arnav will ruin lives of all three of us. Arnav and Khushi will never be happy. And how will I live with the guilt of being responsible for their sadness and pain? If Arnav and Khushi get married to each, they both will live happily... and then I will be happy too!" Though her eyes filled with tears, Lavanya maintained that smile on her face to show that she was happy with her decision.
Anup and Nilima couldn't believe what they heard... but it was true. What a sweet girl Lavanya was! As Nilima went ahead and caressed Lavanya's head, Anup said, "God bless you beta, God bless you!"
Ajinkya had tears in her eyes. He kissed his daughter's forehead saying, "I am proud of you my girl..!! I am so fortunate to have a daughter like you!"

Arnav left to meet Khushi early morning. He reached Khushi's home. Parking the car by the roadside, Arnav walked to the gate, preparing himself for the confrontation. He knew Khushi loved him and understood him very well. He was sure that she will believe in him. But Arnav froze at his place when he saw Khushi and Shyam hugging each other. He couldn't believe his eyes. Arnav couldn't lift his feet to walk in through the gate. The sight in front of him had killed him. His mind and heart had almost stopped working. He stood at his place like a lifeless statue - not able to see, hear or understand anything. He then left the place, driving wildly back to his home.
Neither Arnav went to office, nor did Khushi.

The next day, Khushi reached office with her resignation letter. She handed the letter to Mansi at the reception and told her to give it to Arnav. Khushi left immediately.
Arnav was shocked to see Khushi's resignation letter and he tore it off. He didn't want to let her go. He tried to contact her but in vain.
The recent happenings had disturbed Arnav a lot. Aman decided to talk to Khushi. But he knew that she would not want to meet him if he went to her home. He had to make her come to office somehow. So, he suggested a celebration party to all the employees for the company's success in two important projects. Arnav was least interested and told Aman to do whatever he wanted. Aman was glad that Arnav didn't deny. Aman urged Khushi to come as she played a major role in both the projects. Khushi reluctantly agreed.
*****
Khushi reached office for the party. She first went to her cabin to see whether she had left anything there. She found a letter on the table. She was surprised to know that it was a promotion letter. She wondered whether her resignation letter had reached Arnav. She had told no one else, not even Anjali or Shyam, about her decision to resign. She decided to ask Mansi whether she had given the letter to Arnav.
Khushi reached the auditorium where everyone had gathered. She was searching for Mansi when Anjali came to her. Anjali was very happy to see Khushi there. They both began talking as if they had met after ages. Aman saw Shyam standing with his team mates. Aman made up his mind to speak directly to Shyam. He was about to speak to Shyam when he was stunned to hear Shyam tell his colleagues, "I am going to propose her today!! She has received a promotion letter and I too! This is the perfect time to express my love, isn't it?" Everyone around him agreed and cheered him. Aman was shocked. Before Aman could say or do anything, Shyam approached Khushi. "Khushi..." he called out and Khushi turned to face him.
Aman missed a couple of beats. "Khushi, please say 'no'... please say 'no'... please..." he kept murmuring.
