Chapter 57
Khushi ran to her room and threw herself on the bed. Putting her face into the pillow, Khushi was crying badly. Shashi, Garima and Dadi were confused and very worried. Khushi did not tell anything. She was just crying. She cried till she had no more tears left. She cried till she was breathless. Her eyes were red and swollen. She lay on the bed sobbing badly. She felt exhausted. Her mind and body were numb. Garima sat beside her caressing her head. Everyone was worried. They wondered why Khushi made them leave the party so suddenly. They were constantly asking Khushi what had happened. Khushi sat up and hugging Garima, she began crying again.
Caressing Khushi, Garima said, "Tell us what happened Khushi... Unless we know the problem, how can we find a solution?"
"What solution Amma?!!" said Khushi still crying, "What solution??" She sobbed. "There is no question to which we can find a solution... There's just a statement, Amma...!!! Just a statement that Arnav and Lavanya are getting married to each other!!"
Everyone was shocked. They knew their Khushi very well. They could only imagine what Khushi was going through right now. They themselves couldn't digest it because they believed that Arnav loved Khushi.
Shashi tried to handle the situation by saying, "Someone must have jokingly said that Khushi..."
"Lavanya herself told me and it wasn't a joke Babuji!" said Khushi.
Khushi sat staring at the wall. She had stopped crying. Her body was stiff. Her blank face and her hollow eyes made everyone worry. "Joke..." she whispered. "Joke..." she chuckled. Khushi spoke monotonously... "Joke was when I believed in him... Joke was when I believed that he loved me... Joke was when I thought he cared for me... Joke was when I felt that he was singing the song for me..." Khushi suddenly began laughing. Everyone was scared for her. They knew how all this had affected her. She was laughing madly. "What a joke!!! Arnav loves me... Hahahaha" she was laughing. Everyone stared at her in shock.
Garima shook her vigorously... "Khushi!!!" she cried and Khushi stopped laughing.
Khushi's face turned sad. Everyone was worried by the sudden emotional transitions of Khushi. "Why..." she said as her eyes watered, "Why, if he didn't love me... Why did he play with me? Why did he play with my emotions?!!" Tears rolled down her cheeks. "Why did he make me believe in all that wasn't true?... Why???!!!" she cried. Garima caressed Khushi. She too couldn't control her tears seeing her dear daughter's pain. "Why did he do this to me? Why me? Didn't he find anyone else?" Khushi was crying and sobbing. "How can I believe that he doesn't love me? I always felt he did... He cared for me, Amma..." said Khushi remembering the night Arnav had saved her from the stranger. "Those feelings can't be false... He understood me, Babuji... He understood every small thing, he understood my unspoken words and feelings... I know he... he did!" She paused to breathe. Her voice choked but still she somehow managed to speak, "How could he..." she sobbed. She couldn't speak any more now.
Garima took Khushi into her embrace. Dadi and Shashi just looked at Khushi helplessly, knowing not how to console her.

Arnav was trying to call Khushi but her phone was switched off. Since Riya had told him that she had seen Khushi leaving with her parents, Arnav was confused as well as worried. Why did she leave? So suddenly? She didn't even tell me... Arnav couldn't stop thinking about her. He wanted to talk to her. His heart was telling him that something was wrong. He just wanted to leave the party right away.
Lavanya came to him happily saying, "Arnav, why are you standing here, all alone? Come, let's eat now! See everyone is waiting for you..."
"Lavanya, umm... I am not in a mood to eat anything... You all please carry on!" he said dialling Khushi's number again.
Lavanya held Arnav's arm and pulling him said, "Ohho Arnav!! Come now..."
This angered Arnav. He pulled his hand with force and yelled at Lavanya, "Don't you understand?? I don't want to eat anything!! Here I am unable to talk to Khushi, and you are..." Arnav noticed that everyone was staring at him in shock and surprise. He took a deep breath trying to control his anger, and said, "I am sorry... You go ahead, I will join you in a minute..."
Lavanya was shocked at Arnav's harsh reaction. She went away silently. Anup and Nilima requested the guests not to mind what just happened and enjoy themselves. But they didn't fail to notice their son's tension. Aman and Akash came to Arnav to know why he was so tensed. Arnav told them that Khushi had left suddenly without informing and that her phone was switched off now.
"There must have been some personal problem, Arnav... May be some family issues... Or may be Khushi wasn't feeling well..." Aman tried to relax Arnav.
"But she could have told me yaar... Fine, she wanted to leave... If she would have told me, ofcourse I would not have compelled her to wait..."
Akash patted on Arnav's shoulder. "Relax Arnav, we will talk to her later now that her phone is switched off..."
"I don't know why Bhaiya, but I am feeling very uneasy... I am feeling restless for some reason" said Arnav.
Anup happily walked to Arnav and hugged him. Arnav was surprised. Anup held Arnav proudly by his shoulders and gladly said, "So finally you decided to get married!!"
Arnav was surprised to think how Anup knew about Khushi and him. He smiled and asked, "Papa, you know about it?"
"Ofcourse!! I am your father afterall..." said Anup laughing.
Arnav was still surprised. "But how do you know?" he asked.
Anup smiled looking at Ajinkya and said, "Ajinkya told me everything!!" Arnav was more surprised now.
"How did Ajunkya Uncle know about it? I had told about it to no one... not even to Aman...!!" said Arnav.
Everyone laughed leaving Arnav, Aman and Akash surprised and confused. Akash noticed that Payal was very restless and it seemed as if she was about to cry. He didn't understand what was going on and what was about to come.
"What if you didn't tell anything to anyone, Lavanya told us everything!" said Nilima smiling from ear to ear.
Arnav looked at Lavanya saying, "You knew about Khushi?!!"
Lavanya didn't understand why Arnav was taking Khushi's name. "Uff Arnav, forget Khushi now! I told them about us yaar... About you and me!!" she said in excitement.
"What?!!" exclaimed Arnav, "About you and me?" he said, confused.
"Stop pulling my leg Arnav...!! I told them that we love each other and we will soon get married!!" said Lavanya blushing.
Arnav's eyes almost came out after hearing that. Aman and Akash were stunned.
"I am very happy my child!" said Anup.
"Wait a minute...!!" said Arnav angrily, "Who told you that I love you and I want to marry you?!!" he asked Lavanya.
Lavanya was shocked. "What are you saying Arnav?!!" she asked, "I had proposed you and you yourself said 'yes' a few minutes ago!! Stop kidding now..."
"What?!! When did you propose me??" asked Arnav in surprise.
Now Lavanya's pulse increased. "Arnav, enough of the teasing now... How can you forget the card I had given to you along with these clothes?! Stop this drama now and accept it yaar... Atleast don't make fun in front of the elders..." said Lavanya.
"Card?!! Which card?" asked Arnav in confusion. "I didn't find any card...!!"
"Okay, so you didn't find any card... Fine!! Then why did you say 'yes' Mr. Arnav? That can't be without any reason..." said Lavanya naughtily. She knew that now Arnav had to accept his love in front of everyone.
Arnav wanted to clear everyone's confusion. "Look Lavanya," said Arnav firmly, "I haven't found any such card you are talking about... I said yes to your question whether you were looking beautiful... I am sorry, but I don't love you. I have always considered you as a good friend of mine, and you will always be. And I can't marry you Lavanya, because..." he paused and took a deep breath, "because I love Khushi...!!"
Aman, Akash and Payal were glad that finally Arnav said it. Anup and Nilima were stunned to know it.
And Lavanya, she couldn't believe what she just heard. Her eyes watered. "No... Please say this is not true... Arnav, I love you... I have always wished to marry you..."
Arnav just looked away from Lavanya knowing not what to say. He was sad that this had hurt Lavanya but he couldn't do anything about it.
Lavanya came near Arnav and said, "But Khushi was very happy for me when I told her about this! That means she has no problem with..."
"What?!!! You told her that I am ready to marry you?!!!" exclaimed Arnav. "No no no!! You can't do this!! Why did you have to tell Khu..." he left the sentence incomplete and shut his eyes thinking what Khushi would have felt.
Arnav was helpless. He dialled Khushi's number at once but it was still switched off. Arnav became restless now. "I need to talk to Khushi... I must meet her!!"
Lavanya couldn't believe that Arnav cared so much for Khushi but not for her. She ran to her room crying all the way. Ajinkya followed her. Anup and Nilima didn't know what to say. They both were themselves shocked to know everything.
Arnav was worried for Khushi. He knew her very well and he knew what she must have been going through. "I must go meet Khushi right now!" said Arnav walking towards the door with his car keys.
Akash stopped him saying, "Arnav, wait. Look at the time! It's 12:20 am. It's too late to go to anyone's home"
"I have to go Bhaiya... If I don't talk to her soon and clear all the confusion, she will go mad Bhaiya... I am sure she must still be awake... She won't be able to sleep now... I know her!... I have to go and..."
Anup stopped Arnav saying, "Arnav beta, Akash is right. This time is not appropriate..."
Everyone agreed to it and Arnav stayed back. But he was constantly trying to contact Khushi.
"Arnav" said Anup, "since when do you and Khushi love each other?" he asked.
Arnav looked at Anup with a blank face, "I... I don't know... It just happened..." said he.
"Beta, when did Khushi tell you that she loves you?" asked Nilima.
"She has never told that... But I know she loves me!" said Arnav.
"What?!" exclaimed Anup, "Okay, atleast you must have expressed your love to her then..."
"No Papa..." said Arnav. "What is this Arnav? You don't know anything and still you are..."
"We love each other Papa... and we know it!"
Arnav was trying to make everyone believe in their love. Aman, Akash and Payal too backed him to convince Anup and Nilima to agree for their relationship. Arnav knew that Aman was aware, but he was surprised to know that Akash and Payal too knew about his love.
How could Anup and Nilima not agree? There was nothing wrong in this relationship and there was no reason they could not accept Khushi as their future daughter-in-law. They had always adored the girl and they admired her parents too. They were happy with Arnav's choice. And they knew that Khushi had brought back happiness into Arnav's life, she had showed him the right path always, she had made him understand Nilima... And they were sure that Arnav would always be happy with her. Now the only task was to convince Ajinkya and Lavanya about it.
