Like/Dislike/Neutral Week 7
I just want to answer a few questions before the update. Everyone is asking for more frequent updates of this story, but here's the thing: I'm writing two stories and so you can expect an update every other week for each story. If I have loads of free time and I manage to finish an update earlier than that, then I will post it here immediately. I'm sorry to disappoint you, but this is how it's going to be until my other story, My Imperfect Mr Perfect finishes - which it will do within the next few months because it's nearing its end.
And someone had asked in their comment, whether this story is going to have a sad ending with lots of heartbreaks etc. The answer to that is no, I don't do sad endings because I get really emotional over them myself. Yes, Arnav won't be as nice here as he is in my other story - in fact, that was the whole point of this story - but, that doesn't mean that this story will have lots of heart breaks. Yes there will be some sad scenes like the one in the last update, but those who read my other story know that I don't extend fights and stuff to any more than two updates. So don't worry, this won't be a story off too many heart-breaks.
A Heart That Loves - Chapter 5
Khushi stuttered, "I mean... to be with me... I need you to be with me..." Khushi tried to tell him properly as her previous attempt had come out completely wrong. "I need to be with me to break my fast..."
And then his smirk disappeared.
"Khushi, you know I don't believe in these things and I don't like to be a part of them," he said, darkly, not making a move to place his hands on top of Khushi's like he normally would.
"I know Arnavji but it's for our good... For our happiness..." she tried.
Arnav's hands turned into fists as he gritted his teeth - but he tried to control his anger as he bit out, "Khushi I've told you this already. I don't believe in all this and I'm NOT coming. End. Of." His steely tone clearly meant no more discussion on this topic.'
But Khushi missed the warning completely and still tried to convince him, "Please Arnavji - can you not do this much for me?"
And that broke the dam.
Arnav swatted off Khushi's hands on his chest before turning around to grab her shoulders as he yelled, "When you know I don't believe in this SHIT then why do you try and make me do it???!!! WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT!"
And that's when Khushi heard the first crack...
Of her heart breaking...
**********************************************************
It didn't hurt that he refused to break her fast. It didn't hurt that he had half expected her to give up her beliefs for him. It didn't hurt that he was angry at her for no reason.
What hurt, was the fact that he had told her that she had no right.
It was like being awoken from a beautiful dream with ice cold water being splashed on your face.
Tears stung her eyes as she realised that it wasn't his fault - not at all.
She had been the fool.
He had always been clear about the fact that he was never going to love her. And she had readily agreed to that too. Of course she hadn't anticipated falling for him in the process, but it had happened nevertheless. And somewhere along the line, seeing him care for her with his tiniest of gestures, she had started living in an imaginary world where she pretended to herself that he almost loved her. Almost.
But Arnav just gave her a reality check.
He didn't love her. At. All.
Their relationship was just for namesake - to convince his Di and Nani that he was dating a girl he loved and they didn't need to find any girl for him.
Other than that there was nothing between them except maybe a budding friendship.
But even that didn't hold any real importance to him - in fact she held no importance to him. Her existence had no significance in his life. He could easily throw her away and replace her with another girl to show his family.
He was right - she really didn't have any right over him or anything related to him. He had made it crystal clear from the start and she had been the one to forget it.
All these thoughts just made Khushi want to cry out loud.
For being so blind. For being so foolish. For being so in love.
But she couldn't show all these emotions to Arnav. She didn't want to fall weak in front of him.
However it was a little too late for that as her traitor tears were already blurring her view.
Not wanting to show him her emotions, Khushi looked down towards the floor, hiding her eyes from him as she said a quick, "Sorry," her voice breaking slightly, before she swiftly turned around and hurried out of the door before Arnav could stop her.
She left in such a hurry that she didn't get to see Arnav reach out towards her as if to stop her, as he felt a tinge of regret for being so harsh on her.
But he brushed off the feeling when he saw her leave without a second glance.
Let her go,' he thought. Why should I care?'
Shaking his head, he got back to his work, trying to ignore the image in his head of a certain doe-eyed girl standing their tear-faced, with hurt written all over her face.
Meanwhile, Khushi ran out of the house, pretending she didn't hear a worried Di and Nani calling behind her.
She knew she was being rude, but she just didn't want to face them right now. Not when she was feeling so broken. She didn't want them to see her tears and try to talk to Arnav. It would only break her heart more to see Arnav's I don't care' attitude towards her hurt and pain.
And so she ran, not even caring about the rain that was pouring down mercilessly.
She got into the first auto she could find - which was quite a while later might I add - and headed straight to her apartment, her tears mixing with the rain water, running down her face.

The next day, Arnav went into office with an unsettled mind.
The previous day, he just couldn't get Khushi out of his head. Every moment with her, every smile, every touch, every kiss... All their times together just kept swirling round and round in head, making him restless.
He'd wanted to call her... He'd felt bad for making her cry but what could he say to her?
Sorry?
Well, Arnav Singh Raizada didn't do apologising, so that was off the list.
Please don't cry?
That just sounded lame.
I shouldn't have shouted at you?
That's as good as an apology, so that wasn't going to happen.
I'll break your fast tomorrow?
Well, Arnav Singh Raizada didn't believe in these stupid rituals so he never took part in them - and he wasn't going to start now.
And that was the end of the list of all the things Arnav could think of...
A few moments later he shook himself out of that thought zone.
He needed to focus on work, he decided determinedly.
With that he picked up the steaming cup of black coffee that was waiting for him, and took a sip.
And the next second, he spat it out.
"What the?!" he exclaimed. "Who the hell made this coffee?!" he yelled, coming out of his cabin.
A frightful Aman, his manager, came running towards Arnav as he stuttered, "M-me Sir."
"Where's Khushi?" Arnav demanded.
"She's on leave Sir," Aman replied. "She finished all her pending work for today Sir - I'm just covering the small tasks for her."
"Damn it!"
Seeing everyone staring at him and Aman, "Do I pay you all to stare at my face? Get back to work!" Arnav shouted at everyone, before he went back into his cabin, frustrated.
He'd known the second he drank it, that Khushi hadn't made the coffee.
It had tasted so wrong. There was too much coffee in it, and too much sweetener... It had been disgusting. Khushi's coffee was always so delicious... so relaxing in itself... Her coffee combined with her head massages were just heaven...
And what had you done for that girl who had shown you heaven?' a voice inside him asked him, sarcastically. You had told her that she meant nothing and she had no right over you. You gave her PAIN while she showed you HEAVEN.'
Arnav felt the guilt from yesterday come back full force.
And as if feeding from his guilt, the voice continued, When it comes to Khushi's matter, no one has more right than you. Only you have the right to share her life, only you have the right to touch her, only you have the right to kiss her... But what about her? She has no right over you whatsoever. The only right she has is to sleep with you and warm your bed when you need the comfort of a woman.' The voice taunted, She is only good enough to be your mistress.'
"No!!!" Arnav yelled. Thank God his cabin walls were soundproof - otherwise the whole office would have heard him.
Arnav's guilt reached its peak as he considered all those words.
He had never even thought of Khushi in that way... a... a... mistress...
He had meant it when he said that this relationship will be real... But he realised now that he'd completely gone against that statement yesterday... when he'd said that she didn't have any right... when he'd implied that she meant nothing... when he'd implied that they meant nothing...
Arnav hadn't meant that at all... She did mean something to him...
He may not love her, but she was important to him. He appreciated the small things she did for him... The way she would instantly know when he had a headache just by looking at him... The way she would instantly run over to him and massage his head when she knew he was having a headache... The way she would always make sure that he had his medicines on time, even if it meant getting shouted at by him... The way she would sit down and do her crazy antics to divert his mind if she knew he was really angry or upset... The way she would cook his favourite dishes for lunch and bring it into office every day... Gosh the list was endless.
Her every action spoke of her care towards him and her seriousness about this relationship... It was almost like her world was attuned to him...
There had been so many instances in the past few weeks that he had felt overwhelmed by the amount of affection and attention she gave him all the time... And what had he given her yesterday? Hurt. Pain. Ignorance.
She'd always fulfilled every part of their relationship. Whether that was bonding with his family, or showering her attention on him, never expecting him to love her...
But what had he done for her? He'd denied her the one thing that she'd ever demanded from this relationship, him.
How could he have been so horrible to her yesterday after everything?
He had to rectify his mistake somehow, he decided.
He pulled out his phone to call her, when there was a knock on the door, interrupting his line of thought.
"Come in," he allowed Aman to come in.
"Sir, it's time for your meeting with the Patels. They are waiting for you in the conference room," Aman informed.
"Okay, tell them to make themselves comfortable. I'll be there in a minute," Arnav replied.
When Aman nodded and headed out of the door, Arnav sighed. The phone call to Khushi had to wait. He knew that if he called Khushi, he would need lots of time to talk it all out with her... She deserved that from him. And he knew he couldn't do that properly now, with a meeting waiting for him...
And so he left to the meeting, putting his phone aside, telling himself that he'll definitely talk to Khushi later on.
However, he ended up having back to back meetings that day and he didn't have a single free moment to himself - not even for lunch. It was only when it was late evening that his meetings finished and he got the chance to rest.
He had just sat down in his cabin when he heard his phone vibrate in his pocket.
Seeing his Di's name flashing, he also saw that there had already been 15 missed calls from her in the past hour.
Worried, he picked up the phone, "Di? What's wrong?"
"Chote do you know how many times I tried to call you? I was so worried! And on top of that Khushi isn't picking up her phone-"
"Khushi? What happened to Khushi?" he interrupted, immediately worried.
"I've been trying to call her from this morning and she isn't picking up, Chote! I thought that she might at least turn up to the pooja at Devi Maiyaa's temple, but she hasn't! It's been an hour since we've come here Chote and even the pooja has started! And then I thought maybe she's with you, since you both weren't picking up your phones but... What did you say to her yesterday that she ran away like that? Did you guys fight? The way she ran away, she looked almost broken... I pray to Devi Maiyya she hasn't taken any haste decisions... I'm so scared Chote... We need to try and find her!" Anjali said, her voice filled with fear for Khushi.
Arnav felt like his worst nightmare had come true.
But this wasn't the time to stand and worry, he knew. "Don't worry Di, you stay at the temple. I'll find her," he assured, trying to sound confident, as he took his car keys and rushed outside.
The first place he headed to, was her apartment. It could be that she just decided she didn't want to see anyone because she was upset right?
He exceeded all the speed limits on the road as he headed towards her apartment.
The moment he got to the building, he ran to her apartment and rang the bell several times. When there was no answer he knocked on the door several times, calling, "Khushi! Khushi! Are you there? Khushi!"
When he got no answer he yelled, "This is not funny damn it! Khushi! Open the door!!!"
Still there was no answer...
And he couldn't hear any movement from inside either... What if she wasn't inside?
Just then, another horrible thought entered his mind... What if... What if she'd decided to do something to hersel-
Arnav stopped that thought then and there. Nothing like that was going to happen to Khushi. Never.
Then another thought occurred to him, and he asked himself why he hadn't thought of that before.
He ran outside to the old guard and asked, "Have you seen Khushi? Did she come here last night? Have you seen her today?"
The guard thought for a moment, as if trying to recall something, when he replied, "Oh yes, she came last night. The child looked very upset when she'd come in though."
Arnav felt a pang in his heart as he heard that. It was all because of him.
"And she left the apartment a few hours ago, beta," the guard said.
Arnav swore. She didn't come into office, she didn't meet Di and Nani, she didn't go to the mandir, and she wasn't in her apartment. Where could she have gone?
"Where are you Khushi? Please come back to me..." he thought desperately.
Aaand it ends here. So what do you think? Sorry I know there wasn't any arshi in this update, but this chapter was necessary for you to understand both of their feelings... How was it? What are your thoughts on the characters and their thoughts? Please let me know through your likes/comments. You response is my motivation.
And I also want to clarify just in case, that they haven't consummated or anything. I know I've written 'sleeping together' and stuff in the part where Arnav is getting taunted by his inner voice, but I simply meant making out and literally sleeping in a bed together. Sorry if you misunderstood, but I just wanted to clarify that point.
