My Imperfect Mr Perfect - Chapter 43

"Sheetal called us over tomorrow," Arnav realised. "That L75 must be planning to attack again," he deduced.

"Exactly," Akash agreed. "I tried to find the location from which the phone call was made. And it seems like L75 is heading towards Delhi. And if I'm right, then he should be here by tomorrow."

There was a moment of silence.

"They played us veery well," Arnav said, in a chilling voice.

"But now... it's time for US to play THEM."

Both Arnav and Akash smirked wickedly as they formulated a plan between them.

*******************************************************************

When Arnav finally put the phone down after talking to Akash, he fully turned so that he could fully take Khushi into his embrace.

He buried his face into the crook of her neck, before he let a lone tear escape his eye.

He realised how close he had been to losing his Khushi because of his ignorance and carelessness.

How many times had Khushi told him that she had a bad feeling about Sheetal? How many times did she warn him to stay away from her? How many times had she expressed her gut feelings about that vile woman?

But what had he done? He'd simply brushed them all away saying that he'd known Sheetal for years and he knew that she was a very nice girl.

Even when he knew that some things that Sheetal did were for her own selfish reasons, he'd managed to push away any warnings about Sheetal in his head.

If Akash hadn't done a background check on Sheetal today, then who knows what could have happened to Khushi.

Arnav knew that he would have caught that L75 Sunil, with or without Akash's background check on Sheetal. But he would never have suspected Sheetal. And when Sheetal had such murderous intentions towards Khushi, then even after catching L75, Khushi's life would still have been in danger without them even realising it.

Arnav couldn't control the tears that came running free in that moment.

Just the mere thought of something happening to Khushi, shook him to the core. If Khushi left him, there was no way he would be able to live.

When his mother had left him, he had somehow managed to turn his heart into stone and live on... But if Khushi left him after showing him what true happiness was, he would die. Literally. He wouldn't be able to take a single breath without her...

And thinking how much of a risk he had been putting Khushi under by ignoring her instincts... Gosh never would he ignore Khushi's words/instincts again. Ever.

Khushi opened her eyes drowsily when she felt something wet sliding down her neck.

It was only a few moments later that she was able to register that it was Arnav's tears.

"Arnavji?" she called, worried sick about why he was crying in the middle of the night after they'd shared such beautiful, intimate moments only a few hours ago.

Everything had seemed fine when they had slept - so what had happened between now and then? Did he have a nightmare?

"Arnavji?" She tried to cup his face so that she could pull him back slightly to see his face, but he buried his face deeper into her neck so that she couldn't do so.

Letting that attempt go, Khushi resorted to just putting her arms around him securely, one hand rubbing his back, while the other stroked his hair soothingly, showing him that she was there.

"Everything is going to be okay Arnavji," she said softly, trying to soothe him, though she herself was close to tears seeing her Arnavji in such a state.

As far as she knew, Arnav was one of the strongest people she'd ever met. Nothing shook him. Ever. The only times she had ever seen him break down was when they had talked about his mother. And for some odd reason, she was almost certain that his mother was not the reason why he was crying right now. What else had got him crying like this then?' she wondered.

She placed a loving kiss on his head, wishing she could do something to help him, support him. But she was so helpless when he was not opening up to her...

Feeling Khushi's arms around him, Arnav felt his tears run faster. How much more would this girl love him? Just a few tears from him and she was worried sick for him, trying to soothe him in any way possible.

But him? He had brushed away all her worries and concerns regarding Sheetal like they'd meant nothing. And the worst part was that his carelessness could have cost her life. His Khushi's life!

"I'm so sorry Khushi," he whispered, brokenly. "I'm so sorry."

"Sorry?" Khushi was very confused. What was he apologising for? But then she didn't care to be honest - all she needed was for her Arnavji to stop crying and be his normal self again.

And so she replied, "I-it's okay Arnavji. It's okay... No need to say sorry. It's all going to be okay..."

Why was she so good to him?' he thought.

"No Khushi, it's not. It's not okay... I was wrong. So wrong. I should have listened to you... If I had, then I wouldn't have come so close to losing you," he said, tightening his arms around her.

Khushi stroked him lovingly, not understanding his turmoil, but trying her best to make him feel better.

"That bitch! She was trying to get you killed! All. Along. And I'd let her! It's all my f**king fault," he berated himself, half angry, half broken.

"Arnavji, who are you talking about? I don't understand what you're talking about. But I'll tell you one thing Arnavji. You're my friend. My lover. My protector. You've always saved me from each and every harm that's come my way and I know you will in future too. I trust you. And I need you to trust yourself too Arnavji. Even if I was surrounded by 100 policemen, I wouldn't be nearly as safe as I am with you. And... As for losing me... You never will Arnavji." Khushi put her arms around his back, pulling him closer, laying her head against the side of his as she said, "Arnav aur Khushi hamesha saath rahenge. Always... (Arnav and Khushi will always be together. Always...)"

Arnav just tightened his hold on her as he heard her, as if emphasising her words. Her words were a soothing balm on his wounds, yet the guilt weighing him down refused to leave.

They lay in each other's embrace for another few minutes, one silently supporting her mate, and the other letting out his inner turmoil in the arms of his lover.

Eventually, as the last of his tears finally ran free, abruptly he pushed himself up and cupped Khushi's face, startling her a little as he said, "Promise me Khushi. Next time if I ever ignore your worries or concerns, or if I brush off your opinion, you'll make sure I listen to you - even if you have to slap me for it. Promise me Khushi. Promise me that you won't let me be an idiot next time. You won't let me endanger you... Us."

His words just got Khushi even more confused than before, but the serious look on his face told her that he meant every word of whatever he'd just said.

"Arnavji what -"

"Just promise me Khushi," he said - in fact pleaded, as if his life depended on it. "Please."

Though confused, Khushi still cupped his face as she said, "I promise Arnavji. But... What is all this about Arnavji?" She desperately wanted answers. "I-I don't understand... What went wrong? Why were you crying? Tell me... Please... I-I can't bear to see you so broken... And the worst part is I can't even do anything to help without knowing... Please let me in Arnavji... Please..." she pleaded, her eyes filling with tears.

Seeing her so worried for him, he placed a tender kiss on her forehead, thanking his mom in his heart for sending him such a beautiful angel. He finally had someone to care for him, to laugh with him, to cry for him...

When he lifted his head up to meet Khushi's eyes, he sighed. "It's Sheetal," he said.

15 minutes later, Khushi was laying on Arnav's chest, her right hand entwined with his left as they lay there, her head reeling from all the new information she'd just been bombarded with.

She'd always known something was off about Sheetal... But never did she think she would be a murderer. She knew Sheetal hadn't killed anyone, but still... Sheetal had wanted her dead and she'd even made sure of it with those goons that had been after her - and that itself was close enough to a murder attempt.

"This is all my fault," Arnav berated himself for the hundredth time.

"But you also have a plan to solve everything," Khushi countered in an attempt to make him feel better.

Honestly speaking, she had truly been annoyed about this whole thing with Sheetal at first - until yesterday, to be precise. But hadn't they got past all that now? Hadn't they sorted all that out yesterday night - to be more precise, less than 5 hours ago?

Yesterday, he'd understood how wrong he'd been, giving Sheetal priority when truly the only person who had any place in his heart was Khushi. He'd sorted out his priorities and he'd been repentant for his mistakes. And Khushi had willingly forgiven him for it too, knowing that he had truly meant it.

So she saw absolutely no reason to blame him for any of this now... Sheetal could be a home-wrecker or a murderer - how did it matter? What really mattered was that the man she was in love with was hers in every single way possible, and he now understood who his true priority was. In fact, he'd already made the decision to keep Sheetal out of their lives forever yesterday. So it really didn't matter to her whether Sheetal wanted to try and take Arnav away from her, or if she wanted to kill her. It was all going to be futile anyways and it just didn't matter.

And that's what she'd been trying to explain to her adorable lover, but he just didn't get it.

"But I still put you in so much danger!" he would say - and in fact, he'd just said that exact same thing again.

"Don't you see Khushi? You had to go to Akash to solve your problems. Why? Because your stupid partner was a fuc*** up dumbass who refused to listen to your concerns. Of course this is all my fault!"

Finding no other choice, listening to the advice she'd just been given 15 minutes ago, Khushi lifted herself up onto her elbow, untangled her fingers from Arnav's before she gave him a gentle slap on his cheek.

"What the?!!" he exclaimed, holding his cheek. Although it wasn't hurting, he was just shocked by the action.

"What? You were the one who said I should slap you if you didn't listen to my opinion," Khushi said, innocently.

Arnav pouted - YES, pouted. After all, Khushi's existence in his life was bringing back the old playful Arnav he'd been as a child.

Khushi shook her head as his expression really reminded her of a child that had just been told off for stealing chocolate from the shelf.

Smiling, she leaned down and pecked his pouting lips before she placed a gentle kiss on the cheek she'd just slapped - if it even counted as a slap that is.

She cupped his cheek with her right hand as she said, "For the last time, the past doesn't matter Arnavji. This is something we've already sorted out, and I see no reason to dig it up and make a whole big thing out of it again. We made it clear to each other last night that from now on it's only going to be about you and me. Period. So stop thinking about what's already happened and start thinking about the future. We have a plan to end that L75 Sunil and Sheetal tomorrow, and that's all that matters right now. Okay?"

When she got no reply she repeated, "Okay?"

Arnav nodded, finally giving into her words, making her smile.

As she laid back down on his chest, entwining her fingers with his again, getting comfy so they could set off to sleep again, she said, "By the way, I can't wait for tomorrow."

"Why?" Arnav asked.

"Because tomorrow, after we send the evil villains to hell, I can finally have my happily ever after with my Prince Charming... And frankly... I can't wait!" she replied with a big smile.

Now that made Arnav smile - a full-fledged one.

Not knowing how else to let out his feelings, he lifted up Khushi's chin and took her lips into a kiss... A kiss that showed her how much he loved her... how blessed he felt to have her in his life... how excited he was to start a new life with her...

Hey guys! So how was the update? I know it was short, but I didn't want to make you wait any longer for an update.

So how did you guys like it? Many of you were cursing Arnav for ignoring Khushi's instincts about Sheetal - and honestly speaking I didn't like that about him too. So I hope this update showed you how repentant he was for doing that... So is everyone satisfied now? Or do some people still think he needs to prove himself...?

Please please please like/comment and let me know your thoughts. My motivation to write has been really low lately (and that's partly why I'm updating after such a long time) so I would really appreciate lots of comments. Normally I don't push too much for comments, but I really do need the motivation this time so please please please comment.
