Mayawati bans Aaja Nachle in UP

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Friday ordered an immediate ban on the screening of Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit's [Images] comeback film Aaja Nachle in Uttar Pradesh.

The reason -- Mayawati has taken strong exception to a particular line in a song sequence, which according to her, was derogatory to a section of Dalits.

Not satisfied with the statewide ban, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister wants the ban to be extended across the country and has shot off a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] in this regard.

Chief Minister's Principal Secretary Shailesh Krishna told rediff.com, "A song in the movie contained certain derogatory insinuations against a particular Dalit community, which was also in violation of the spirit of the Constitution."

Confirming the enforcement of the government order, Lucknow district magistrate Chandra Bhanu said, "We have already ensured that screening of the film is stopped with immediate effect."

This is ridiculous,does anyone know what line they talking about in the song thats so derogatory 😕

Some song where it says Mochi khud ko Sonar smajhhe .. Or something like that. I havent heard the songs of ANL .. so I am not sure.

these politicians need better work to do than always ban one movie or other...who the hell even noticed the lyrics, i sure didn't 😡

wow people really need to get over themselves...like banning a movie is gonna achieve anything in the long run...indian politicians have their priorities all mixed up...go do something productive with your lives...

It was in the news today that a political party and UP chief minister mayavati who supports dalit's and minority groups in India protested against aaja nachle cuz of some lyrics in the title track of the movie which hurt their sentiments. The song and movie was not meant or intended to hurt anyone infact its a typical madhuri entertaininer with a positive message about how we should not forget but enrich our culture. Madhuri still rules! The lyrics of the songs were meant to give a more rustic and village feel to aaja nachle. political parties and minority class activists in india should concentrate on solving more relevent issues and problems. I guess yashraj films might have to edit the aaja nachle track to appease the ignorant protesters. Please leave your comments about this issue thanks.
