Okay okay okay I know I have been terrible lately for how I have been unable to reply to you guys on both of my last two analyses and yet here I am writing another one. I loved reading everyone's replies though.. Thank you so much for reading my rambles. đ¤ This is the only time I get to myself these days so please indulge me once more? I just had to write about today's episode.
The first word that comes to mind for it would be - Dreamy.
Dev stiffening as soon as he heard that Sona is ill... Smh. This guy. Just the girl falling sick gets your attention more than your own engagement. Naturally he drops everything else and lands up on her doorstep. I remembered a similar prediction that Elena made about this when Sona said that she should pretend to have typhoid just to get out of the fake boyfriend deal. đ I liked how Sona invested her time into gardening... That was a nice touch. đđź How easily he just touches her forehead... I liked that she pulled his hand away though. What I love about these two is that come hell or high water, somehow when they are together everything else fades away. It's just them in that moment, be it playful smiles, easy conversation or simple moments of reflection. It's all such a strong indicator of the strength and endurance that their relationship has. :) Dev's eagerness to help Sona water the plants was so, so sweet. He just loves to get involved doesn't he? As for that beautiful insight about plants needing love to truly blossom... It was such a great follow up to Dev talking about love. I'll get to that in more detail in a bit.
There is a moment where Sona enters a facewash commercial and Dev just watches in quiet wonder... Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved it. We need more of such moments from Dev Babu. It's a wonder Sona didn't slip on all that water she splashed around BTW... Okay okay excuse my ill-timed humor. đ
When he takes her name and she stills and looks up... Uff. Beautiful beautiful. I love how he almost tests the word on his tongue, clearly liking the sound of it. Previously he has only addressed her by her first name in moments of sheer panic or when driven by pure instinct. Today was different because today it was deliberate. So well done by Shaheer. I love how not just Sona, but even Dev lets the moment hang in the air before reverting to Miss Bose.
Oh BTW I loved that playful, almost flirtatious "Tou kya karegi aap? Mitti phenke gi mujhpe?" "Phenk bhi sakti hu." Err who is he getting engaged to again? đ
Dev though... The man says he wants to find out about love whilst smiling in a dream-like state, a clear sign of the fact that he already is in love.. Wonderful bit of direction there.
This time Sona brings him back to Earth and tells him to focus on his engagement. Interesting isn't it? As if they both know somewhere that he might be doing this for multiple reasons but love isn't one of them.
When Sona asks him what he thinks about his match with Natasha and Dev talks about how she is definitely suitable, then adds that not just for him, she'd be suitable for any man - This particular bit brings me back to what Sona said about how every plant has some particular needs. Ideally Natasha would make a good wife, atleast on the face of it she would fulfill any man's basic needs... But like plants need that extra amount of care and love to be truly happy and thrive.. Dev also might find some reasonable amount of peace and contentment in his life with Natasha but he would never find true happiness or true love with her. With Natasha, there would always be something missing but with Sona, Dev is complete. :)
The last bit where he says how both of them are deprived of this magic that falling in love seems to be - How beautifully has Dev's character progressed in the last month or so... The man who would treat love with skepticism and dry humor, the idea of it seeming like a luxury to him now talks about it with a certain amount of wistfulness. This is Dev finally acknowledging that he does need love in his life; flashback to his admission to Sona "Mujhe nai lagta tha ke mujhe kabhi kisi ki zaroorat padegi."
The follow up scene was equally lovely, when she brings coffee for him and he acts affronted over being treated as a guest and not a friend... I love how everytime Sona tries to distance herself from Dev, he just ends up breaking that boundary she tries to create and insists that what they have is special. Sona really is so hopelessly in love... She just can't keep this man out.
That whole sequence where he is finally served a reminder of where he actually has to be, her pulling him back from his frenzy to fix the mess he has made, getting him to take off his blazer so that she can clean it... Can these two look more married? It was so sweet and natural how, against her best instincts, Sona still caresses the blazer, cherishing these moments with him. Switch to Dev who was having a panic attack like 5 minutes ago, now calmly drinking coffee and turning that globe... I love love love this ease he feels when he is with Sona. The affect she has on him is incredible. He looked right at home there. The way he just loves to find out more stuff about her is so endearing. He might have things in common with Natasha but eventually it's Sona whom he is always eager to learn more about.
BTW was I the only one who half-wished that Sona had helped him put the blazer back on? Yeah okay, wishful thoughts. đ All in a good time. đ
The most significant part of this scene to me was how it ended. Just as Sona says to herself that the only envy or jealousy she feels with regards to Natasha is that she has Dev, we see her turn around to see the things Dev has left behind... As if they weren't just remnants of his visit but a reminder or a quiet sign that even while she thinks that Dev belongs to Natasha, he has infact left a part of himself behind with her and ultimately it is Sona, not Natasha, who holds his heart. :) Beautiful beautiful symbolism!
That last bit.. The instinct to maintain secrecy, to lie about where he actually was... Why Dev? If Sona was just a friend you wouldn't feel the need to lie at all. But she isn't just a friend is she? Atleast now I don't have to tell him to think... Going by the precap he is going to be doing exactly that. FINALLY!
Oh and one more thing, I enjoyed this subtle contrast they showed between Natasha and Dev today. Yesterday Natasha said how regardless of her engagement or even a wedding, she would never miss an important meeting. The old Dev would have said the exact same thing too yet today we saw him forgetting about everything else in his need to make sure Sona was alright and even after he saw with his own eyes that she was doing better than he had possibly he feared, he still ended up spending say... a couple of hours with her? I love how naturally the writers have incorporated these lifestyle changes into the story and Dev's progression as a character. And with that I end my ramble.
