Is Aamir Khan postponing the release of 'Dangal' because of similarities with Salman Khan's 'Sultan'?
Aamir Khan and Salman Khan's friendship developed a huge crack last year when the two reportedly had a heated argument at a party. Also, Salman and Aamir's immediate next films - Dangal and Sultan - both revolve around the same theme. Wrestling.
While Sultan releases on Eid this year, Dangal will only hit screens this Christmas. The trailer of Sultan has been unveiled and Bollywoodlife.com reports that Aamir was furious after watching the theatrical promo. "Aamir Khan made some very heated calls to Aditya Chopra after watching Sultan trailer. And he was not very happy with it. Aamir felt that Aditya had sabotaged his big release this year by planning everything ahead of his film's release. But Aamir's biggest bone of contention with Aditya Chopra was that Salman's trailer showcased the dhobi-pachad move of wrestling, which plays a key aspect of his own film," the website reported.
All of this comes at a time when director of Sultan, Ali Abbas Zafar reportedly stated that Dangal will be the best film of 2016 thereby meaning that it would also be better than Sultan. Not just that, the similarities don't end there. Ali told dna in an interview that even he had earlier titled his film Dangal.
Aamir who is upset with the entire fiasco feels releasing Dangal in a matter of six months after Sultan's release will only hamper his film. Bollywoodlife reports that the superstar is contemplating shifting the release date of Dangal now. "Aamir now plans to delay the release of Dangal because he feels that the audience will be fresh out of Sultan this year and that will hamper his film," the article said.
So for now, speculations are rife that Aamir's Dangal will now hit screens only in 2017. Is this true? We'll wait for Aamir or his spokesperson to comment on the same.
