SONAKSHI, THE NEW JOURNO ON THE BLOCK

The actress's next lead role is based on Pak scribe-writer Saba Imtiaz's 2014 novel, a comedy-crime-thriller.
While she has two of her upcoming films - Akira and Force 2 -- hitting the marquee this year, Sonakshi Sinha has signed up for Abhay Chopra's remake of the 1969 murder mystery, Ittefaq, opposite Sidharth Malhotra, and Vipul Shah's Namastey England with Akshay Kumar. Now, we hear the 28-year-old actress is all set to play a journalist in Noor, which is based on Pakistani journalistwriter Saba Imtiaz's 2014 novel, Karachi You're Killing Me! The film will be directed by ad filmmaker Sunhil Sippy.

Now, we hear the 28-year-old actress is all set to play a journalist in Noor, which is based on Pakistani journalistwriter Saba Imtiaz's 2014 novel, Karachi You're Killing Me! The film will be directed by ad filmmaker Sunhil Sippy.
"While the book - a coming-of-age story of a journalist named Ayesha Khan -- is set in Karachi, Noor will be based in Mumbai and has the eponymous Noor Roy Chaudhary, a 20-something journalist, at its centre," informs a source close to the development. The film is being produced by Bhushan Kumar and Vikram Malhotra. Casting for the supporting actors is still underway.
Sonakshi, who is currently on a work trip in New York, will start prepping up for the film as soon as she is back in the bay. "It's a beautiful story that follows Noor as she navigates relationships, career, aspirations, life choices, infatuations and body image issues. Every girl will relate to her," adds the source.
When Mirror caught up with Sona last (November 14), she'd explained that she wasn't taking up more projects as she wanted to experiment with different roles that would satisfy her as an actress. "With a shift in the kind of movies being made, I too am making a shift in the kind of roles I'm playing, I'm evolving," she had asserted.
Meanwhile, the actress is currently working on Vipul Shah's John Abraham-starrer Force 2 and will kick off Noor in July.
"The entire movie will be shot in one schedule and is expected to be wrapped up by August," informs the source. An official spokesperson for T-Series confirmed the news.

Saba Imtiaz's Karachi, You're Killing Me! is a 2014 comedy-crime-thriller that follows 20-year-old Pakistani journalist-writer Ayesha Khan's misadventures and love life as she navigates her way through the volatile world of Karachi. The novel, which received positive reviews upon release, is described as "Bridget Jones's Diary meets The Diary of a Social Butterfly" by its author.
