Thank your for sharing. I, too, was wondering who she is. I agree with a lot of her song selections. However, I do not agree with what she said about this generation's music being worse.

I do think that the previous decades' music absolutely surpasses today's music, speaking in terms of melody as well as the amount of talent.

But I still think that it is wrong to say that the music produced in this era is worse. As society evolves, so does the aura of music.

There has been some excellent talent discovered in the past decade and there has been some extremely melodious and soulful music produced.

To compare this generation's music to the previous generation, is comparing apples to oranges. There is no comparison. This generations music appeals to people of this generation, simply because it doesn't possess the aura of previous era of music, doesn't make it worse.

Just my opinion. 😳 Any takers?

Thanks for sharing your thought's and very nicely explained.!!

Arun Dada, You just cannot take one individual and compare the whole generation.

Sorry..Didn't wanna miss an opportunity to attack Himesh 😉 😆

..and I don't think music has been sub-standard in this generation. It has just evolved with time.
Remember, this is the generation that can claim to have one of the finest MD's ever in ARR 😊

Is today's music below expected std......my answer is yes and no

When we say music is below expected std,it is ,a very personal POV...coz 'expected std' is different for each individual. For eg,if u ask Pandit Jasraj/Bhimsen Joshi, they will say that today's music is unworthy of being called music.Ashaji also claimed that she doesn't listen to today's numbers. But that doesn't make today's music totally bad..It just means that it is not upto the 'expected std' of these music stalwarts…so opinions differ.

In comparison to music of 1980s and 1990s,I think today's music is neither superior nor inferior. It has just changed. In fact,I think todays's music is actually better than most of 90s music……..Today,the plus points are that we have a large number of MDs,so we get to hear more variety compared to 90s……The background scores of some songs are very good, the beats and rhythms sound gr8……Many songs sound dancey, with a feel good factor……I think these are good things.

However, the miuns points are also aplenty.Compared to the period between 1955-1975,quality of music today has certainly deteriorated. the major problem in today's music,as I see it,is over use of technology due to which a non singer, jiska sur bhi nahin tikta, cuts an album and it becomes a hit.

a) With technology,we have singers recording duets separately…which leads to lack of chemistry and competition affecting the quality of output. If Rafi Saab and Ashaji had recorded'Diwana hua badal'separately, wld it have sounded half as good?If we listen to the song carefully,we can see how much they have competed with one another, each one each time trying a different harkat/murki,trying to be one up on the other…Net output is incredible and Outstanding.Today's duets don't sound half as good, even though we have exceptionally talented singers like Shreya and Sonu.why?

b) We have singers each line separately, which takes away the feel of the song.If Lataji had recorded one line of 'Tujhse naraz nahin zindgai' one day and the antara the next day, wld it have sounded half as good?

c) Most background scores which are so loud that they suppress the singers voice. In fact, they sometimes give me a headache!!! Any good harkats/murkis are hardly heard due to the overwhelming backgrounds..

d) Anything can be modified technically, the pitch at which a singer sings can be increased technically, a besura line can be made in sur with technical changes,if a singer can't get a particular murki etc it can be hidden by the omnipresent background.

e) Lastly,of course, melodious songs…ie,songs having a reasonably good basic tune, which don't have to rely on hi-fi techno beats/instruments to sound good are very few and far between.Try singing any of today's songs without any music, they will sound like a nursery rhyme/like a recitation.

So in comparison to music of 50's,60s and mid 70s,I'd say Bollywod music has deteriorated……Now this is my opinon, since I do not enjoy most of today's songs much……..I listen to them, but the songs I really like are few and far between.
