No.
I listen to lot of genres everything from movie soundtracks to classical Indian music instrumental to songs in languages I don't completely understand all the words. My Hindi is self taught, I don't know how to read but since I knew old Hindi songs existed, I would just listen to them. Even now I don't know all the meanings of words to most songs but I still listen and even sing badly. 😳

I think if we wait to understand the language we would miss out on great music. You just have to open your heart and listen. I truly believe music by itself has a language of it's own and words just add another layer to it.

Interesting.

For me it's not even about understanding the words. My mother tongue is Telugu but I don't even pay much attention to the lyrics or the meaning of the song.. I just hum along. That's probably the reason I enjoy Tamil songs almost equally because even though I don't understand the language much, since I don't pay attention to the words, it's not even a hindrance.

I listen to lyrics, ALSO.
I do pay attention to everything I listen to 😛

But overtime, it's music that matters.

A song with good music may have silly lyrics, but I will still listen to it, if the music is that good.

But a song with bad music but good lyrics - I wouldn't listen to it as much I guess..

not really
I don't even know the lyrics of most of my favorite songs.. I still sing them with all wrong lyrics with full confidence 😆
sometimes I mix two songs' lyrics together

First, it will be music which drags me. (I was listening to Hindi songs, long before I started getting them).
In a familiar language too, first to drag attention will be music (immediate attention will be star, next comes music). But if a song has to live for decades, it needs lyrics.

Yes. First priority is Music but lyrics matters a lot too for me. I won't listen a song with good music and stupid lyrics with no head or tale.
This is why I hate almost all Honey Singh's and Badshah's songs

Always. There are so many songs I like mainly because of the lyrics. I think it adds so much beauty and poignancy to a song. There is a reason ARR-Irshad Kamil or ARR- Gulzar stand out.
