An opportunity lost

Before I begin with this post I must say I don't intend to hurt anybody's feelings and let me clear it I'm not writing this bcoz of yesterday's episode. It has got nothing to do with this post.

As I had mentioned in my earlier post I started watching SKR after vanvas so I began watching the earlier episodes on hotstar. Yesterday I saw the episode where Ram and Siya feel each other's presence in ashram. I really liked the new twist to their first meeting . What interested me the most was that it was Lakshman who met Sita first. In fact he introduces Ram to her, who he is and how great he is. They had a lovely sweet conversation twice during their stay. And after watching that scene I felt even more bad. They had a great opportunity to showcase an amazing bond between devar-bhabhi and they let it go.

I understand Sita has a different orientation of life and nature. She has grown up in an environment where she has been able to appreciate nature's beauty without being subject to its cruelty. Also she's independent when taking her own decisions. But having ur own thoughts doesn't mean disregarding other's. What lakshman feels about nature and forests he has his own reasons for that.

She is shown to be compassionate. She can understand the emotions of animals who can't speak, she even understood the intention of jatayu and stopped Lakshman from killing him. Then when Lakshman made a shield for her protection why did she get so angry. Lakshman's only intention was to protect her, why she couldn't understand his pure concern for her. I'm not saying she has no right to be angry. She's a human and she too has feelings. But then again there's a reason Ram and Sita are different from others. They are perfect examples of restraint. They know how to express their feeling, without hurting others. There have been 2-3 scenes when Ram and Lakshman enter kutiya. Ram comes, meets her but then he sits, it's Lakshman who runs up to her like a child to her mother to tell her what all happened and how Ram helped villagers or killed asurs. But same emotion I never see from her side.

Her portrayal towards Ram however has been good and there I see that sweet innocence I find missing otherwise sometimes.

It's good to give Sita's character new shades but that doesn't mean to do away with her calm and sweet demeanour that was always there. Also it's good to add new stories but why deviate from existing ones so much that u show something really opposite. Lakshman had every chance to kill shrupnakha but he never did so. Why ? Because of what he had learnt from his bhabhi in those 13 yrs and hence he refrained from killing a woman. Ram may have been apprehensive abt what he did but Sita never complained of it. How can she, after all he had saved her.

Lakshman is recognised as an architect in the epic. In every series whenever he builds a hut that's a special scene dedicated to him where Ram and Sita praise him and what he had done for them in all those years. But here they took it as a chance to highlight his impulsiveness and further praise her knowledge of nature. We know she's bhumija she's close to Prakriti...but that scene was totally unnecessary according to me.

I still feel makers can correct it. Perhaps by showing some flashbacks of what Sita is thinking in ashok vatika or anything. They have been real champions when it comes to highlighting lesser known characters or ignored relations. If somehow they can mend this it will be nice. I at times find if hard to connect to her and these moments I actually go on YouTube and see old ramayan series.

@TM, very coherently written and explained.👏
One of the greatest disappointments in this series is the inconsistencies with Sita ma's character. Slight distortions to suit the screenplay would have been acceptable but SKR's Sita has been portrayed as short tempered and easily worked up though I am not sure if that was the writers intention.

The Sita -Lakshman bond has been the most to suffer due to this. Instances to glorify Sita have on the contrary shown Lakshman as incompetent.

When one reads Ramayan, one of the main things we understand about Lakshman is his shraddha.. shraddha that made him do things for his brother and his SIL without being asked. Shri Ram and Sita appreciated this dedication all through Ramayan.

That inconsistency rankles.

Inconsistensies will be a mild word to use now
It has been character assasination of Sita maa's character
