Do you agree that movies nowadays are more 'vulgar' than before?

Hey!

So, the popular opinion out there is that today's movies are more 'vulgar' than before.

I don't really understand that statement, 'cause I actually find Madhuri's Dhak Dhak more suggestive than Sheila ki jawani/Lovely etc. I mean, those pelvic and chest thrusts, those lascivious expressions, transparent sarees were much more suggestive in my opinion.

Of course, one case doesn't apply to all, but I always am a bit quizzical when I see someone calling Choli Ki Peeche/Dhak Dhak/Tip Tip Barsa Pani tasteful, but decrying today's item songs. What's the difference really?

Also those song sequences that The Dirty Picture parodied- like the fruits rolling down the woman's navel and what not. 😆 How is that NOT suggestive? It makes me blush more than a Paani wala dance because of the innuendo behind it.

What say?

There's always been suggestive and even outright vulgar songs, lyrics, and choreography around. I think it's just upped in frequency somewhat, or rather become 'popularized' in the mainstream with the termed trend of the 'item song'...? These songs are purposely made to be the headliner, to shock and get attention...penetrative advertisement, if you may, pun unintended. You also have people like Aditya Chopra who just seem to be gravitating towards visuals for posters, etc. for the heck of it...to push buttons, be part of the in-group, come across hip? Point being, it's a lot more in your face. But yes, it's always been around to varying degrees.

Yeah, I know. 😆

The weird part is I've seen Madhuri say how her dance numbers were never 'vulgar', as if she is above all this. I was like, what were choli ke peeche and dhak dhak then? 😕

Also, the yesteryear love scenes make me cringe so much. It's like they're literally trying to eat each other up.

I don't know about movies but songs in the 80s and 90s were definitely much more vulgar than songs of today. Some of the choreography back then was literally air humping. Yikes. 😆

The worst vulgarity nowadays is in songs of Kareena, she seems to misunderstand sensuality with vulgarity, not complaining though 😆
