well i had to ponder on this question after watchin this season saregamapa , indian idol 3 and star voice of india ...al these 3 musical reality show followed the same pattern ..none of them had a female contestant on the top three ( no matter how good they were)...it was the female contestant who were the first one to be voted offf....so as a viewer from overseas i get the a vibe of sexism associated to this .....well it could on be me or is india really sexist???????

I dont think this is a sexist attitude. the voices of the men and women differ. african women have stron heavy voices which is why in the us of a etc they have one contest for the idol.... but most indians have a thinner and high pitched voice. and the men have a baritone. it is just not fair to compare the two.....which makes the whole competiton unfair!!

honestly i think these shows shud have 1 male winner and 1 female winner

i 4got hu said this but in srgmp wen poonam was eliminated 1 of the judges said tht she is the winner among the grlz and she shud consider herself a winner cuz its unfair 2 compare the voice quality/singing of a male and female...i think he used kishoredi and lataji as an example saying tht 1 cannot compare the 2 and both r legends..i dont remember which 1 of the gurus said it...but only VS(cuz they r sensible) or ID (she she was frm his gharana) wud say such a thing.

newaiiz the point is tht i agree...grlz and guys shudnt be compared 2 each other since they rnt really competing in the industry...a woman will sing the female part and the man will sing the male part..one's voice cannot replace the other and both r equally important in the industry

Hmm'!
this voting has no logic!
I wonder if females vote for female 😛 ..the voting is done by female most of the times..i'ven't seen considerable number of men voting for these type of reality shows..mosts of the voters ...I've seen are of female gender..I think they are voting for these male contestants...
So its time ...the Male Voters are enrolled and the importance of voting is promoted among MEN..so that they vote for female...

Well you cannot determine that a nation is sexist based on reality shows. In India the voters are mostly female who vote for the cutest guy, or older women who vote for the nicest guy. Note that all the winners are really cute/nice and not really most talented. Women are more obsessive voters, compared to men who may vote a few times.

Women in India themselves work against other women. Women themselves look down upon women who are assertive, outspoken with leadership qualities etc. Also they would rather go crazy over the cute guy rather than appreciate talent in a fellow women.

well it is supposed to be supporting the best, if the girl is the best, she should win

IMHO, there has only been one contest where the girl was the absolute best contest, that was Nihira Joshi, yeah many a times the best contestant does not win, and that is basically b'cos people vote based on criteria's other than talent(such as gender 😉, who is cute 😆 )

And you can easily make out who is the best prepared singer, and gender has nothing to do with it, you dont need to make seperate categories for boys and girls, that is defeatist mentality

Now if you want to view everything based on gender, well, India voted for Indira Gandhi as being the PM for perhaps the longest duration and even now they vote based on her memory, so what does that make India 😉

It might be the case, but I think it's just based off their performances. We've changed.. I think. 😆

fair enough but she was also one of the few who was assisnated..... and isnt making the statement"there has only been one contest where the girl was the absolute best contest, that was Nihira Joshi, " a bit unfair and leaning towards one extreme ...there have been heaps of preety good contestant its just sometimes it feels like they dont get a fair go...and sayin that ppl normally vote for the cutest or the best looking contestant dosent seem to justify anything as looking at some of the past winners oh well most of them for that matter cuteness has gone out the window ,,lol

one point i agree with you.

In India the voters are mostly female who vote for the cutest guy, or older women who vote for the nicest guy.

totally disagree....who in the world told you older women vote for the nicest guy??? nobody knows if they are nice or otherwise...or do you mean nice in behaviour or looks or something like that???? if you say youngsters vote for the cutest guy that is acceptable and understandble but then this comment on the older women is unacceptable unless you can prove it with adequate data...😉

Note that all the winners are really cute/nice and not really most talented. Women are more obsessive voters, compared to men who may vote a few times.

i honestly have no clue about this one.....maybe...but i think it is the teens that are compulsive voters....not women...

Women in India themselves work against other women. Women themselves look down upon women who are assertive, outspoken with leadership qualities etc.

where in the world do you come up with such stats hades??? and such conclusions????from the saas bahu serials??? the men are basically afraid of assertive independant women. who told you women look down upon other dynamic, charismatic women??? those days are long dead and gone my dear....it is just the old fashioned that think a womans place is the home and man is the bread winner. and are scared of other women coming up in life and being superior to their man!!!

Also they would rather go crazy over the cute guy rather than appreciate talent in a fellow women.

another one of you off the cuff remarks!!!!!

Well said!

THats what was pointed out in II, almost in all shows they touch this topic of girls being voted out... Nihira,Poonam many of good female contestors in past got eliminated, when they really deserved to be in.. why no one knows fair guess tho. as the basic atti for guys voters is "oye forget it...why to waste time and money.." OR "yaar this guy/gal is singing well EK vote kar hi detta huu" VS gals ..omg he is choo sweet there goes whole sim card 😆, yeah no proofs jsut bringing some humor here.

Women in India themselves work against other women. Women themselves look down upon women who are assertive, outspoken with leadership qualities etc.

Well first thing that flashed in my mind hearing this was Mauli. Dave SRGM.. she wasn't a great singer I agree..but no doubt a competetive performer...never expected her ot be the winner...but she really had edge in her type of songs.Well point I wanna bring was all gals I asked was like " No she over acts" she is this that.... I mean. Not sure term jealousy would be appro. here but yeah Gurl (Voting) for Gurl Vs Gurl (Voting) for Guy... I believe latter takes the 👍🏼.

Also they would rather go crazy over the cute guy rather than appreciate talent in a fellow women.
