Kangna has been out of this project for almost a year as her dates didn't match the schedule. If there hadn't been any delay she might have been able to do it but then it overlapped with Rangoon.

The delay is due to the French co-producers as it takes more time from the moment the movie is approved to the actual financing.

At one point there was even rumors of Sonam being approached.

I remember those Sonam rumors as well. Truth is somewhat arbitrary with Kangana but she and Sai Kabir appear to be choosing a, shall we say, "different perspective" on the past than last time. 😉

They must have brought in Kangna's name to raise awareness to the project. It quite a downgrade going from Kangna to Zarine...

I was quite excited about this movie and really wanted either Kangna or Sonam to do it as the premise seems interesting but now with Zarine being cast in the movie I'm not so sure anymore.

Well, I'll wait for the trailer and first looks...

No offense but the Huffington link has a direct quote from Kabir "on the record". The Hungama link does not; it is an unsourced "interpretation" of what he said. The former holds far greater journalist weight.

Also she released a statement saying she was doing the project long ago (clearly excited about it) and had clearly spun her leaving the project recently and preemptively. The first quote from Kabir a couple days ago (about the "new girl" ) did not sound remotely planned especially when days later he had cast a clearly not new girl. It sounded as if he had been caught unexpectedly with the news. Since the initial reports were " Kangana opts out" it makes sense. Only now are the headlines " Zarine replaces Kangana. "

Further the Irrfan quote speaks directly about her desire to be THE hero not willing to share the spotlight which supports the direct quotes in the Huffington link.
