The first quarter of 2016 is over, and we decided to narrow down the best performances by our favourite B-Town actor & actresses. These stars have wowed us with their different characters, nuanced act and varied roles they enacted. Here are a few names which we think deserve a worth mention in the list:
ACTRESSES
Sonam Kapoor for Neerja
Sonam undoubtedly delivered one of the best acts of her career, with the portrayal of the slain air hostess, Neerja Bhanot. The actress has been hailed by the critics, as well as her fans for her soulful performance. With the apt amount of vulnerability and finesse, Sonam has definitely come off his age. On an added note, it is the highest grosser film of 2016 till now.
Priyanka Chopra for Jai Gangaajal
Despite the film failed to create magic at the ticket window, Priyanka's performance was the only saving grace & lauded by all. In the role of a tough cop, Abha Mathur, Piggy Chops act was a sincere effort to salvage the film.
Ratna Pathak Shah for Kapoor & Sons
A powerhouse performer, Ratna's act in the film was one big surprise. From a mother who plays favourites between her two sons to the wife who constantly taunts her husband about his lack of ambition/success, and drives him into the arms of another woman; Ratna's act was complex yet convincingly real.
ACTORS
Fawad Khan for Kapoor & Sons
Reportedly, many biggies refused to essay the role of a homosexual in the film & eventually, Fawad decided to step in. And the critics as well the fans just couldn't stop raving about Khan - there's a lot more to this actor than good looks and charm. His performance as the perfect' son with a secret, (of him being gay) stands out of the lot. Fawad showed versatility and vulnerability with equal ease.
Manoj Bajpayee for Aligarh
Manoj's act as Professor Siras was definitely a class apart. A man whose bewildered fragility is up for examination - Manoj championed his character of an elderly professor who is hounded out of his job and home, because of his sexual orientation. The actor was lauded for his role which he essayed with subtlety, and there's a certain compassion which one will feel, post watching Manoj's impressive act.
Akshay Kumar for Airlift
Based on the true story of Indians who were evacuated from Kuwait after the Iraqi invasion in 1990, Akshay Kumar as seen in the role of Ranjit Katyal- the man who was instrumental to successfully helm this rescue operation. Akshay delivered a controlled performance, infusing the suitable amount of patriotism in his character.
R Madhavan for Saala Khadoos
Though the film didn't do wonders at the ticket window, R Madhavan's role of a disgruntled coach to hurling abuses was much appreciated. The anger, frustration and bitterness of Madhavan's managed to win the hearts of critics who termed his act in the film as one of his career's finest performance.
