Filmmaker Atlee has confirmed that Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan 2 is not happening anytime soon, putting an end to immediate sequel speculation. Released in 2023, Jawan became one of the biggest Hindi films of the year, prompting constant questions about a follow up. Atlee has now clarified that while he intends to work with Khan again, it will not be for Jawan 2 in the near future.
In a recent interview, the director said that Jawan 2 will take more time before it goes on the floor. He explained that the creative flow has to feel right for a sequel of that scale. According to Atlee, the next collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, whenever it happens, will be a different project altogether.
“I think me and Shah Rukh sir will work on definitely something. But Jawan 2, I personally feel, maybe some years later. Not the immediate next. But definitely me and Shah Rukh sir will look into something when it comes in its flow,” Atlee said, as quoted by Hindustan Times. His comments underline that the sequel is not off the table, but patience will be required.
During the same interaction, Atlee was asked about reports linking him to Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming Don 3. The filmmaker dismissed the speculation outright. “Oh oh! That’s a rumour. I also read it. No no, nothing like that,” he said, making it clear that no such collaboration is currently in discussion.
At the event, Atlee was also asked to name the best pickleball partner among actors he has worked with. He immediately chose Shah Rukh Khan and spoke about his admiration. “I think all my heroes are great players. But Shah Rukh sir, he’s also into sports, KKR,” Atlee said, adding that Khan’s ability to balance cinema, planning, and sporting commitments continues to inspire him.
Jawan, released in 2023, followed the story of a prison warden who teams up with inmates to challenge corruption and injustice. Shah Rukh Khan played dual roles as Azad and his father, ex commando Vikram Rathore. The film crossed Rs 600 crore domestically, emerging as India’s highest grossing release of the year. For now, the wait continues.
