Children do have the power to put parents through difficult and challenging times if parental support goes against what they badly want. Shalu is the unbridled filly who is going off the road! Who has the power to control her, brother or that trickster Raja ?
Serving cold tea to show gross unwelcome and disrespect towards Dhani's ashram visitors certainly cools down Kanak's angst. She is one firebrand not to forgive or too forget! and when it comes to rubbing more on the esteem of ones in an awkward situation, Kanak does so with such malicious intent. Yet to the tough spiritually ascetic widows of the ashram serving of cold weak tea is not unknown and thus Dulari ends up on high moral ground when she admits ,to Kanak that rightly so what the children did should not be condoned, but as parents they have to make allowances and implores like her daughter did, to grant her a chance to prove her worth. Dulari is the mother who empowers her child in having faith in her. Whereas Kanak is the mother who constantly undermines her child Shalu into a dump of low self esteem. That was that! tolerating Dulari and Inderani, all gone! but they leave behind their trash, namely the splinter in her eye Dhani! whom Kanak orders to rinse the glasses her mother used outside in the courtyard! Such is the policy of widows being unclean and untouchable! and then Dhani has to put the glasses away where the servants are kept! Kanak makes a mockery of herself as a widow when she goes around nailing widows on the cross.. even the widow who has remarried in her very family!
Even the strongest of daughters find the smart of their mother being insulted before them tough, but Dhani swallows her sorrow, her mother will be looked after her god , for Dhani's duty is to look to this house's needs. To remain morose for long is not for Dhani, as the very presence of Viplav in their room fills it and her with sunshine. What she wears for the outing seems to grand and formal! thus Dhani is the loved girl whose husband gifts her with the outfit he wants her to wear. An integral part of love for a wife, is to dress for the pleasure of her husband. Viplav nows beholds Dhani in fancy designer wear sari with designer jewellery .. gorgeous is what he says to Dhani !
It's all hush hush about Shalu issues.. yet Raja's topic brings closer Shalu to her mother ,wants to know what she has planned after two days? Whatever it's going to be, is stopped by the sight of Dhani and Viplav going out for dinner,a sight that is bound to cause angst to both Kanak and shalu.. why is all going well with these two Dhani and Viplav. Dhani tries to show regard to Kanak and sends Viplav away while she tries to show sensitivity towards house rules by telling Kanak they will not be staying out late. But irritated Kanak replies why tell her when they didn't tell her the two were going out in the first place! Little does Kanak know that Dhani comes from the ashram where all sought permissions, and informed all about each other's comings and goings to avoid causing anxiety to the ashram family!
Eventually the reason for the outing is revealed. Viplav introduces his wife to the potential boy he has chosen for his sister Shalu , and his family. Seemed decent people known to Viplav and also known to his family. All bodes well so far. Viplav is in seventh heaven! he means well for his only sister .He did promise he would find a decent groom for her.. thus he attempts and alongside but obviously gets his wife's support too. Dhani had already in the past raised Viplav's awareness that being Shalu's brother he should investigate the family and the boy Shalu was getting married to. Hence complacent he had done the right thing, he returns home and with a clatter and bang he gathers his family and announces that he has found the suitable boy for Shalu! much to her consternation she finds the two males, her brother self appointed father, her dada ji ,plus her mother appear to arrange this marriage for her! this time she was not going to take it lying down! her brother didn't when it came to his marriage ! he did his own thing!muses Shalu.. so its him who has arranged this !so it's him she'll ask, how could he arrange this marriage without even asking her?? her opinion doesn't matter! Shalu has a point.. but Viplav allows her to ask that question. He is not one to come down on her like a ton of bricks ! by saying its arranged and she'll be forced to go through it! In fact he gives her the option,that all go along with, meet the boy and his family tomorrow , see what she thinks about him then decide..
Tomorrow arrives but nothing changes in Kanak's attitude towards Dhani ..dhani is told she is excluded from having anything to do withShalu meeting this boys family arrangements.Kanak rubs in that Dhani is a widow ,and inauspicious.. it's the treatment she got from Dashrant when it came to Shalu's pre wedding ceremonies. Kanak now takes that bitterness out on Dhani .. such madness she has, that Kanak refuses to see that Dhani is not the widow anymore but she is..kanak is in denial, that makes her hate Dhani even more!
Shalu arrives in a red sari with vermillion in her hair parting! Her vermillion in itself is a bold statement that should be enough for the boys family...here then is not a girl from the ashram who brings dishonour to this family .It's their own daughter who now brings the Tirpathi family in disrepute. Shalu boldly tells Shekar and his family no is disrespect to them but she already wears Raja's vermillion in her parting and considers herself married to him! Shalu had already decided the moment Viplav told her that Shekar's family is coming.. that she would pull this stunt which will also reveal before her own family too that by hook or by crook its Raja who she considers her husband! because she loves Raja!, Raja's phera's of deceit have cast a spell on Shalu ,she speaks his language
Viplav's good turn back fires in his face.. shekar advices him if this was the case, than he should have first checked with his sister ,and since he is new age man he should allow his sister to marry this man because she loves him .Besides with due apologies he would not marry her any way.. and they leave..
Dashrant is irate, and he blames Kanak for her attitude of allowing the dividing line of regard and reverence that exists between the elders and younger to fade away. Kanak in no time hurls the blame on Dhani when she says ,chaos does happen when outsiders began to take decision relating to the household.Kanak's misfortune she misinterprets the good as bad and the wicked one as good!
The blow up of love that comes out in the form of rage, hate, bitterness! Viplav follows Shalu to her room , what is she up to? She backchats and in rage he slaps his sis ,his mooto.. sorry he is very !and Shalu vents out, his love is love and hers a slap of derision! His marriage all accept! but hers all reject! It's the fairness she questions, Viplav takes about his rank in the family ,he's older knows best for her,but she says mother is older than him ,she has no problem with Raja.. vilplav reminds her Raja tried to assault Dhani. But Shalu taunts that's what Dhani says! but Raja denies it ..so its Dhani's word against Raja , but Viplav tells her why would Dhani make up such a disgusting things about herself?.but Shalu digs her heels in if he believes Dhani than she too believes on Raja in the same way! Viplav tells her to forget Raja and she retorts he should then forget Dhani too.. if he can't! then how can she forget Raja! Shalu cries bitterly with the fear of losing her favourite toy !and Viplav leaves too..it's a positive scene at least Viplav gets to see and hear exactly how Shalu is totally possessed by Raja's love
Viplav feels like a basket ball kicked about by Shalu, she twists all the good that he does for her.. Viplav shares his insecurities .. as an older brother he feels a loser..he feels a loser as he fails to protect his sister from this Raja.. since Shalu nonstop chants his name! He fears she might do something drastic Dhani supports her husband and calms him down ..worrying doesn't solve problems. Deal with Shalu with love and understanding ,not by losing his temper with her. Dhani offers to talk to Shalu , Viplav dithers , but Dhani is optimistic who knows she might listen?
It's all in the family.. Shared problem.Shalu has issues, pity apart from viplav and dhani whom she is at loggerheads with at the moment are the only two people who seem to care about her.. take an interest and are anxious about her welfare..kanak is in her own world of anti dhanisim! the only way to prove raja dark side to shalu is ..her marriage to raja.. sadely she can reap only what she sows. viplav needed dhani today and she was there for him..he knows how dhani feels.. its their issue!... hamlet 53 1.4. 16...
