My Imperfect Mr. Perfect - Chapter 38
Meanwhile in another area of India, a man standing in a room of darkness, dialled a number on the phone and waited while it rang.
As soon as it was picked up with a soft, "Hello?" he started to speak.
"Last time you failed. But this time I want no mistakes. When are you calling them over?" he asked sternly.
"Day after tomorrow for sure," the other person replied, voice slightly shivering.
"You know the consequences if anything goes wrong don't you?" he asked menacingly.
"O-of course," the other person replied.
And with that the line went dead.
The man then took out a photo and traced the face on the picture, his lips curving into an evil smirk.
"At first I thought I'll just finish you off. But after seeing you - I thought I might as well enjoy you before sending you up to heaven. I'll make up for the lost times all in one go..." he said, looking at the photo lustfully.
**********************************************************
As soon as Khushi shut the bathroom door behind her, she leaned against the door, resting her head on it as she closed her eyes and sighed.
She knew that today was going to be a hard day - a very hard day. She knew that Arnav would leave no stone unturned to woo her back. And it was going to be quite a task for her to stop herself from forgiving him.
But she had to do this - because if she didn't, then she knew that she will be the one suffering later on. Forgiving him right now would be easy, but she knew that it would hurt like hell if he made the same mistake again. And so she has to steel her heart for one day and give him a hard time...
With that determination, she opened her eyes only to be met with another sorry card and another set of flowers positioned right in front of her!
He doesn't even spare the bathroom does he?' she thought, amused.
Just as she'd finished her shower, she realised that she didn't bring any clothes or towels with her in the hurry of leaving behind Arnav...
Panicking, she looked around the bathroom for anything that might be able to cover her...
As her eyes scanned the area, she spotted a towel, and next to it was a packet that she had failed to notice when she first entered the bathroom.
She grabbed the towel instantly and wrapped it around herself before she opened the packet...
And there, inside it was a beautiful light blue saree...
She took it out, awed by the simplicity and beauty of it... She had to admit that Arnav had really good taste in sarees - either that, or he knew exactly what she liked...
She saw a note sticking out of it and took it out to read it:
I'm so so so sorry Khushi. I know what I did was extremely wrong and it has hurt you a lot. I wasn't thinking Khushi, and I know it's my fault completely. But I promise I won't do something like this ever again. You're my life Khushi, and without you I can't breathe - not anymore. And I will do anything to keep my life with me. Please give me this one chance Khushi - I promise you won't regret it. I love you.
Yours
Arnav'
Automatically a smile started to bloom on her face, as she read the note.
And in that moment, she knew that her heart had forgiven him. She knew that whatever he had written in that note had been from his heart and she was sure that he would try his best not to make the same mistake again.
But she wasn't going to show him that yet, she decided.
She didn't want him to suffer anymore - but she didn't want to let him off the hook just yet. And she knew the perfect way to do all that.
She put the note aside before opening up the sari, and what she saw made her blush to her roots.
Laying inside was a pair of undergarments that matched with the sari, along with the blouse and petticoat.
He must have predicted her reaction this morning, she realised. He had known she would rush away from him and in her haste she would forget to take her clothes with her into the bathroom.
But that's not what bothered her.
What bothered her was a number of things: 1) He'd somehow known exactly what size she wore for her undergarments and they were a perfect fit. 2) The fact that the whole of today he was going to know exactly what she was wearing inside that sari. 2) Had... had he touched these garments while buying them? He must have - how could he have bought it or packed it without touching it? And that thought just sent tingles up her spine. Those undergarments would have his touch on them and when she wore them it would be like he...
She stopped her thoughts before they could extend into the gutter. All this just felt so embarrassing yet intimate all at the same time.
Putting a stop to all these thoughts, she started wearing the sari.
A few minutes later, she came out of the bathroom wearing her gift, drying her hair with a towel.
"Beauuutiful," she heard a mesmerised voice, before she banged into a hard chest that she had completely missed as she had been looking down.
She was about to fall down with the force, when a pair of hands caught her by the waist, steadying her.
Khushi felt a thousand sparks explode all over her body as she stared into those mesmerised molten brown eyes, feeling him squeeze her bare waist sensuously, make her chest heave up and down despite her effort to keep herself calm...
As if in as spell, they both inched towards each other, closing the distance between their lips, little by little...
But just before their lips met, warning bells rang in Khushi's brain, alerting her of the folly of her actions.
Literally a microsecond before their lips were to meet, she pushed at Arnav's chest making him let go of her out of shock, as she put a safe distance between them.
Unable to face him, she turned around to run away from him.
She had just taken her first step when she felt herself come crashing towards a manly chest.
And before she knew it, Arnav had smashed his lips against hers.
He just held his lips against hers, making his claim yet not making an attempt to deepen the kiss or make her feel more uncomfortable.
Khushi just clutched onto his collar for support as the simple contact still made fireworks go off inside her, making her knees go slightly weak.
Shortly, he pulled away just slightly to say strongly against her lips, "Never walk away from me when you know that both you and I want the same thing."
Khushi simply looked into his eyes, reading the passionate command in them and in reply giving her answer...
She could act all she wanted that she didn't want to be close to him, to hug him, to kiss him, but she knew that inside she loved the way he didn't let her move away from him and stole a kiss from her without her permission. It just went to show that he knew his rights on her and he wouldn't ever let their relationship be tarnished no matter what came in the way - and she loved that.
As his eyes slowly changed from commanding to admiring, she blushed to her roots, unable to control it.
"Does that mean you've forgiven me?" he asked, huskily against her lips.
Khushi shook her head slowly, her lips brushing against his lightly with the movement. "No. It means I'm giving you a chance to prove yourself," she whispered, deciding it was time to take control now.
And with that she placed a finger on his lips and pushed him back slightly. "I'm going to give you a chance - everything seems fine right now, but I still don't trust you... Especially when you're near Sheetal," she said, looking down for the last part as she didn't want to show him the pain in her eyes again - she knew he was already repenting for his mistakes and she didn't want to rub salt on his wounds.
But who was she kidding? This man knew her inside out and could read her like an open book. Arnav had known exactly what she was going through, and all playfulness vanished on his face feeling her fallen face. He pulled her into his embrace, cocooning her head against his chest, trying to protect her from the pain that he himself had caused her. Khushi wrapped her arms around him, scrunching up his shirt around his back.
"So I'm giving you time to prove yourself and myself time to forgive and forget," she said with her head laying against his chest comfortably.
"I promise you won't regret this Khushi," he said, tightening his arms around her. "I'll prove to you that I'll never hurt you like that again," he said, his voice rough with emotion. "I promise."
Khushi tightened her grip on his shirt, as she shut her eyes tight, hoping against hope that he won't disappoint her this time... Because she wasn't sure how many times she could bear a similar mistake. She was ready to face any problems for them, any misunderstandings - she would stand against them all. But she couldn't share her man with another woman in any way. That was a problem she could not, and would not face. A brother-sister relationship was different but the third woman in their lives at the moment had other intentions, she knew. And she just hoped that she didn't have to face any more pain in this issue because of Arnav's lack of thought...
They stayed like that for quite a while before Arnav broke the silence, "Shall we eat? We have quite a bit of investigation to do today, and you're going to help me, so we're both going to need the energy," he said, surprising Khushi.
In these months, this was the first time that he was asking her to help him with his work. And it somehow made her feel good, to be a part of his work-life too - even if it was just a small part. She wanted to be a part of every side of him...
"Me? And help you? How...?" she asked, wanting to know what he had planned in his head.
"This L75 has some kind of link to you or your parents - otherwise why would he want to kill you? And there are chances that you might have come across him once or heard your parents talking about him... You might not have, but it's worth trying to see if there's any clue we can get from your side," he explained.
Khushi nodded before telling Arnav that they should eat first before discussing anymore.
And with that they walked out of the bed, towards the dining room.
Khushi was about to tell him to wait at the dining table while she makes breakfast very quickly, but then she saw that there were already plates laid out neatly on the dining table with a plate full of pooris in the middle.
She was wondering who made it as she had only just come out of the bedroom - and all of a sudden it clicked.
"You made this?!" she asked Arnav, shocked out of her wits.
Arnav just smiled as he pulled out the chair for Khushi like a gentleman.
"Today breakfast is my duty," he said, taking serving the pooris for her and himself before sitting down to eat.
"This is so tasty Arnavji! How did you know how to make it?!" she questioned, surprised when she took the first morsel and she found that it was so delicious.
"Maa showed me how to make it once," he said, gulping. "When I was younger, I used to think that my mum had secret magic powers because her food always tasted so good," he chuckled. "And one day when I asked her about it, she had laughed and picked me up, taking me into the kitchen and placing me on the slab. There she had showed me how to make pooris for the first time, to prove that it didn't take any magic but just the right technique to make her delicious pooris. From then on whenever she used to make pooris I used to sit with her in the kitchen and help her make them with my tiny hands..." he said, nostalgically.
"But I stopped making them after she..." his throat clogged up with emotion, not letting him speak further.
Khushi who had been controlling her tears for him all this time, got out of her seat as soon as she saw him start to break down. She walked up to him and sat on his lap, taking him into her arms, letting him rest his head between her bosoms as tears started to roll down both their cheeks.
"She didn't deserve it Khushi," Arnav cried into her chest, making Khushi cry too as she too yearned for the mother figure that she had lost. She didn't know what had happened to Ratna Maa, but she knew it must be bad, seeing Arnav breaking down completely.
"What happened to Ratna Maa Arnavji?" she asked, her voice low, almost scared of the answer. But she needed to know to find the closure that she needed. Despite so many years passing, it always remained a hole in her heart that the mother figure she had grown so fond of had suddenly disappeared, never to return. And even after growing up, that still stung her and she just needed to know what happened to her Ratna Maa.
Her question only brought more tears into Arnav's eyes as he remembered the pain that his mother had to endure... She had been a pure soul, just like the woman in his arms right now, and she didn't deserve the death she got...
He knew that Khushi deserved to know what had happened to his Maa, because she had been as much her mother as she had been his. But today wasn't the day for that, he knew. Today they had a mission to complete - or at least start to complete, and he couldn't let these personal issues come in the way. Not today. Because he didn't want Khushi's fate to be any similar to his mother's - and so he had to make sure that he solved this case ASAP.
And with that thought in his head, he answered, "I promise I will tell you soon, Khushi. But not today."
As he saw Khushi about to protest, he said, "We need to finish this case ASAP Khushi. Because this L75 is more dangerous than that Shyam was. This L75 is a complete unknown Khushi. And so we don't know what to expect, and that is dangerous for us Khushi. We need to know what we're dealing with, and for that we need as much information as we can to gather the possibilities of who this man is. And we can't delay it any longer," he said.
But Khushi wasn't convinced. She knew that what he said was true, but in that moment she was just a vulnerable daughter who wanted to know where her mother went and why. And all these explanations just weren't enough to pull her away from her queries.
Seeing her thoughts etched on her face, Arnav cupped her face and made her look at him.
With teary yet determined eyes, he said, "Khushi I've already lost one of the most important women in my life. And I can't lose you too Khushi - I won't be able to live. You're all I have Khushi, and I can't let anything happen to you too. Help me save my life Khushi. We have the rest of our lives to discover and heal each other's scars, but right now, this is more important."
Khushi saw the fear of losing her in his eyes and instantly melted down and gave into his wish. She would wait to find out about Ratna Maa.
She nodded ever so slightly, making Arnav relax. "But just remember Arnavji, Ratna Maa's blessings are with you no matter where she is today... Because otherwise your pooris would have tasted like burnt jalebis with your lack of practise," she said, making him finally let out a chuckle.
Without moving out of Arnav's lap, Khushi turned to the table and broke out a piece of poori before turning back to feed Arnav lovingly.
And in turn Arnav did the same, feeding Khushi with all the love he had shining in his eyes.
They both fed each other the remaining breakfast, maintaining a peaceful, companionable silence.
"Thank you Arnavji, for making this wonderful dish after so long... for me... It means a lot," Khushi said, placing a kiss on his forehead.
Arnav just replied by placing a loving kiss on her neck...
After clearing up, they both sat on the sofa along with Akash, with the background check on Shashi Gupta open, along with the list of 5 people that Arnav had cut down his list of enemies to:
Raj Singh
Vishal Arora
Anil Malhotra
Sushanth Kapoor
Karan Bhatia
The day before, Arnav had called both Aman and Akash to get a background check on all five men.
And today when Arnav had mentioned that he was going to do some deep analysis on the case with Khushi, Akash had insisted that he too would come and help them.
He wasn't lying when he had said that he felt as if he had a sister now in Khushi's form. And he wanted to do everything he could to try and save his sister - even if it was just a small tiny contribution.
And now they had all the files open, two files for each suspect (one from Aman and one from Akash). Each person analysed each file separately to see if there was anything suspicious.
It turned out that Vishal Arora, Sushanth Kapoor and Karan Bhatia all seemed completely clear of any crimes. And there didn't seem to be anything particularly suspicious about them.
However Raj Singh and Anil Malhotra had a few murders and assaults done secretly for business benefits.
So they came to the conclusion that there was a high chance that one of these two men could have murdered Khushi's parents and could be after Khushi now.
But one question remained - if they had killed Shashi Gupta due to business reasons, why did they want to kill Khushi now? She had nothing to do with business, and she wasn't rich either so what would be their benefit in killing her? This was the question that was bothering Arnav, Khushi, and Akash.
While they were racking their brains to try and find some answer, Khushi spoke all of a sudden, "Arnavji, Bhai... I... I have something to confess."
Both the men turned to her, confused.
"Remember when I first got kidnapped? And it was the first time you had heard the name L75?"
Arnav and Akash both nodded. Yes Akash knew as well, because though his was not a police officer he was still working on Khushi's case with Arnav, helping him out where necessary so he had always been kept updated by Arnav with the details.
"I don't know... I felt like that name felt familiar... Like I had heard it somewhere a long time ago..." she said. "I've been trying to make myself remember where I've seen it or heard of it, but... I just can't seem to put my finger on it still..." she said, disappointed with herself.
Arnav and Akash looked at her with a newfound hope.
Akash spoke softly, "Don't lose hope Khushi, the fact that you're getting some sort of hunch itself is good. We just need to dig a little deeper and we will - you have Arnav and your bhai with you in this. We'll definitely help you find this."
Arnav nodded in agreement, "Haan Khushi, don't worry. We'll definitely get to the bottom of this."
"Tell us a bit more Khushi. When you say you've heard it before, does it feel like you'd heard of it recently, or a long time ago...?" Akash asked, attempting to help Khushi try and remember.
Khushi tried to think and replied, "It's definitely not recent Bhai... I feel like I heard it a long long time ago..."
Akash took a moment to process that before saying thoughtfully, "If it was a long long time ago, the chances are that you might have heard it from your father or mother maybe? I mean this L75 killed your parents so he must have some link to them. So if you'd heard the name when you were young, then it might be that you heard it from your father? Or maybe this person actually visited you?"
"Hmmm," was all Khushi could come up with while she tried to think really hard, to try and find any answers, but it just didn't come.
Seeing Khushi start to rub her head a little, both Arnav and Akash understood that they her head was starting to hurt and they needed to take this slow.
Arnav inched closer to her and placed an arm around her shoulder, as he pulled her hand away from her head with his other hand and placed a kiss on her temple. "It's okay Khushi. We just need to give it time. You'll remember soon - don't try and force it and hurt yourself okay?" he said softly, hugging her close to himself.
Khushi nodded, though inside she felt like a complete let down... But she allowed Arnav's warmth to make her relax, as she knew that he will make everything alright for her soon...
"How about we look through Shashi Gupta's file again to see if there are any clues in there that we've missed?" suggested Akash, to try and change the topic.
"Sure," replied Arnav.
Khushi picked up the file that Akash had given and said, "Arnavji, me and Bhai will look at this one and you can look at Amanji's one. Then we'll swap?"
Arnav nodded in agreement, and all three got to work straight away.
They were all looking through the file intently when Khushi suddenly screamed, "I remember!!!!"
I just want to say that I really loved reading all your POVs on the whole Sheetal situation - some against Arnav, some against Khushi, some supporting both... interesting... Don't think that section is over yet - it's just put on hold for now... Once Sheetal is physically in front of them again, we'll see how things flare up... ;)
Sooo anyways how was the update? What do you think? We're very close to finding who this L75 is... Any last guesses??? Do let me know your opinions with your likes/comments :)
