Chapter 1
How We Met

"Swadheenta!" I hear Shalini shout. She's a sailor. She can shout up swearings like she's singing a song. That easy. And she sounds that bad.
No offence.
"Yes, Shalini." Hands down, I'm annoyed. I mean, yeah.. it's her wedding. Name one woman who wouldn't want her wedding to be perfect. But if you want your wedding to be perfect, you work hard for it. You do not call your friend since primary school in the middle of the night and ask her if everything's done.
"Is everything done?" Exactly. Not how you do it.
"For the thousandth time, Shalini, YES!" Fine! It's not her fault! Had I been in her place? I would've probably freaked out as well. But this is getting way out of hand.
"Oh and I have someone I want you to meet." Right. Another date. Another hairy, weird beard guy. I'm not interested.
"Oh." I sound interested for a moment."No." I say in a dead tone.
"Come on Swadheenta! You're awesome! You're a lawyer and you're so beautiful!"
"Well thank you." She called me beautiful. "And no."
"But Freedom.."
"Shalini, I can't. I can't do that once again. I've.. I've gone through it once. Would it kill you to not interfere in my life for once?!" That came out rude. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay." She sounds hurt. I hurt her. Darn you, Swadheenta.
"Fine. I'll do it. I'll meet the guy."
"Yay!" Typical Shalini.
"Would you ever grow up?"
"Right after you." She says. As much as annoyed I am, I break out a grin.
"What's his name?"
"Oh. Drum roll." I roll my eyes at that. She can be sooo dramatic sometimes, "Adarsh Sinha."
Adarsh Sinha.

"Swadheenta!" I hear Shalini shout. She. Shouts. A. Lot. I turn around to see her standing there, all clad in a beautiful gown for her sangeet, smiling at me. "You're here."
"I am." I go forward and hug her.
"How do I look?"
"Like the epitome of beauty." I grin as she blushes.
"Thank you." She says.
"Where's that person you wanted me to meet? Setting me up, seriously? Shalini, this is not high school. I just.." She suddenly turns me around and makes me face him. Adarsh Sinha.
"Hi." He forwards his hand. Okayyy.. He has stubble, not a weird beard. He's lean. And tall. Aaandd... he doesn't seem hairy. Or fat.
Good. Check all boxes in apperance.
Now comes personality. Ask a question.
"Hey." I shake his hand. "I'm Swadheenta."
"Swadheenta." He acknowledges. "Nice to meet you."
"You too."
"I'm Adarsh Sinha." Are you? Bummer! I know your name, dumbo!
"Look? You look beautiful as a couple. Adarsh, ask her to marry you." Yeaahhh.. um, Shalini can be a little blunt.. at times. Don't mind her. Her brain stopped halfway to maturing. She's stuck at a time when kids were allowed to say anything they want. Well.. because they were kids.
"Shalini." I warn her.
"It's all right." He looks at me, "That will happen too."
That wasn't appropriate. Am I blushing?!

"Swadheenta! Shalini!" Mrs. Rao, Shalini's mother, calls us. "Where were you both? I've been looking for you everywhere." Mrs. Rao is very, very sweet. I consider her like my own mother. Ever since me and Shalini met in primary school, I've always been at their house. Maami and Maamu didn't mind and Asad was a toddler.
"Sorry, Maa." Shalini gets annoyed when things don't go her way.
"Come on now. Cheer up." I love Mrs. Rao so much. She insists I call her Shilpa. But really? It seems so awkward to call someone 30 years older than you by their first name. So I go by Shilpa Aunti or Shilpa Ji. Or Maa, when I get emotional.
I miss Maa.
I never really talked much about her. I miss her so. And Dad. Though Mom the most.
"Swadheenta?" Adarsh. Shit. I turn around to see him standing there, smiling at me.
"Hii.." I slurr the 'i'. "What's up?"
"Wanna dance with me?"
"Uhh.." I turn to Shalini, asking if I should go ahead.
"Go." She murmurs, clearly satisfied with her work of setting me up. Don't get me wrong, Adarsh seems like a really nice guys. But nice guys are usually not all that nice. It could be a facade. He could be a serial killer.
Or a vampire.
Come on! Who doesn't ship Twilight and The Vampire Diaries? Think about it. Adarsh Sinha. Just like Damon. Or Edward.
A vampire. Blood sucking creature.
"Hello?" Right. I was lost in Damon Salvatore.
"Sorry." Yeah, you apologize.
"Shall we?"
"Sure." I take his hand and he leads me to the dance floor. Naina from the movie Khoobsurat plays. Aaah... Fawad Khan.
"You're such a fan girl." He places his hand on my waist as I put mine on his shoulders.
"No, I'm not." I blush.
"Yes, you are." He laughs.

Well hello there! Here's the first chapter of the SS! The truth? It wasn't easy writing this. I was SO scared on how you would like this to go. But I did the best I could and please tell me how it went.
