However, he is surely going to be flooded
with a lot of offers post Kapoor & Sons...
Fawad Khan is one of the BIGGEST stars in
Pakistan and after he debuted in India with
Khoobsurat, he became a household name here
as well. With his second film - Kapoor & Sons
rocking at the box office, he has established
himself as an actor to look out for. Many have
compared Fawad with a lot of actors in Bollywood,
some have even suggested that he will be the
next BIG Khan of Bollywood. So, we spoke to our
trade experts - Akshaye Rathi and Amul Mohan,
to get a better perspective and we were surprised
by what they had to say.
While talking about people's suggestion that
Fawad Khan will be the next Big Khan, exhibitor
and distributor Akshaye Rathi reveals, "To call him
the next BIG Khan is a bit too early. While he is
promising and very talented, the Khans had
taken two decades to become the super duper
stars they are today. It is a lot of consistent hard
work that has got them there. So to compare him
with an actor who has just two Hindi film releases
so far, would be extremely unfair to them. It is
way too early to call him the next Big Khan!"
Editor of Super Cinema and trade analyst Amul
Mohan also mentions, "I think Fawad has a long
way to go to be the next BIG Khan. He is
obviously a very accomplished actor, people
already know that coz he has great acting skills.
We can't attribute it only to the films he has done
here coz he has just done a couple of films here.
The main stuff he has done in Pakistan, he is very
popular and people are opening up to him. Those
shows are now available on Indian channels now,
so people are taking note of it. There has to be a
lot of permutation and combination in terms of
kind of films he picks and kind of roles he wants
to do. All of those factors are important for him to
be labelled as the next BIG Khan. I think he has
his own identity in terms of acting skill and
caliber. I think he has a long way to go for that.
But I don't doubt that he can achieve it coz we
know that he is a great actor."
Recommendations
So, would he be of some competition to stars like
Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Sidharth Malhotra
and the others? Akshaye mentions, "Speaking
about his generation also, I don't think so. There
are 350 + films being made every year, so there
is enough work for everyone. Whether it is the A-
list stars we have or the 10-20 new stars coming
up, there will be enough scope for all of them
because there are only a few actors currently who
can draw in an audience on their own merit and
there are so many movies being made. So, I don't
think he will pose a threat to them."
Amul also adds, "No, I don't think so. It all
depends on the kind of movies he is doing. He
hasn't signed anything immediately after Kapoor
& Sons. So you don't know three other films that
he is doing, but you do know what Ranveer,
Ranbir, Sidharth, Varun and Arjun, these all
young actors are doing. But having said that, it is
a very difficult market to break in to. The newer
actor bracket is very small anyway. So, I don't
think he is competition to anybody. He might be
debuting in Bollywood just now, but he has been
acting since a very long time in comparison to all
these newer stars. Fawad has experience on his
side, so he is not competition to these young
stars. These stars are trying to patch themselves
through different looks and ideas, but this guy
has to figure out what kind of films are offered to
him. All of those things will determine where he
will land up."
But, with the success of Kapoor & Sons, Fawad
will certainly get more offers. As Akshaye suggests, "I certainly think that
Kapoor & Sons is one of those successful A-lister
projects that will give him the bandwidth so that
more producers can approach him. He has done a very good job with his role, so I am sure he will have many roles landing in his lap very soon. He has Ae Dil Hai Mushkil coming up next, which is another A-lister project, so things certainly look
good for him."
