Ch 35 : His Regret
It was late at night, Avantika entered his study room, she frowned she found him sitting on the couch and lost in his thoughts. She went and sat beside him.
"Whatever happened, it shouldn't have." Avantika spoke, breaking his trance. Rey look at his mother, He rested his head on her shoulder. He needed her support.
"I have hurt her. She will never forgive me, mom." Rey whispered brokenly. Avantika, though she was angry on him but couldn't see son like this.
"She will. Give her some time." Avantika assured him, Rey closed his eyes tightly, feeling the pain of his words. He was realizing the depth of hurt he had caused her.
"Mom, i did wrong, didn't i?"
"Rey, I understand you wanted to help your brother, but you should understand that you can't help him at cost of your own happiness and married life. No one will be happy in that." Avantika said to him, hoping he would understand what she was trying to say. Her heart goes out for her elder son, but she would never want her younger son to sacrifice his happiness for other one's happiness.
"Its not about shivam or kriya, It is about you, don't you want your own child? I'm sure even you have dreams of having a little taani or junior Rey, taani ke bhi dreams honge. Ek baar apne baby ke baare mein toh socho, what will you answer your child, why you gave up on him/her?" Avantika questioned him, she wanted him to understand the importance of kids, she want him to understand his responsibility as a husband and father, want him to know that no matter what, he can't give up on his child even if its for his own brother.
Rey was in deep thinking, true he had never thought about having kids since his & taani's relation has just started, but somewhere he too wants his babies. Now thinking about kids, he could relate himself to taani. He could understand her feelings, and how hurt she must be at the thought of someone taking her child away from him. His heart clenched painfully, he was hating himself, not just for hurting taani but for even thinking of giving his baby away.
"Don't sit here and cry. Go and talk to her. She is very understanding & mature...but don't take it for granted." Avantika said to him, and added last part after a pause. Avantika kissed his head and walked out of the room.
Knowing his mother is right, Rey got up and went in his room. He entered the dark room, closing the door he moved inside. He found her asleep on the bed, he knelt on the bed before her. Moon light beaming inside the room from window, was falling over her face, making her look more angelic. But what pained him, was the dried tears marks on her cheeks.
"I'm sorry." He whispered softly, he leaned and kissed her forehead, he got up and laid down on his side of the bed. A lone tear escaped her eye and she opened her eyes, sleep was far away from their reach. She was hating the distance between her & her husband, but couldn't bring herself to take initiative toward him, her heart was too much in pain for that.
