Nice post...Iswari is being rather irrational...it was Dev who brought Sona home as her personal nutritionist...so if Ishwari has a problem she should speank to Dev...instead she is taunting Sona on her pay and job...not only did she say Sona was a maid but also tried to make her cook...she intentionally sent the servant out so that Sonakshi would cook!! And the reason- Dev is paying her a huge sum and she wants Sona to work according to her pay!! Worse she says that to Sona. She doesnt even bother to think how the girl would feel. Happy that Sona gave her a good answer.
Ishwari always says she values her son's money...she is worried when his wallet is lost or he has to pay her nutritionist but absolutely no problem when she wastes that money by not listening to Sona. If she actually valued the money she would listen to Sona. Instead she creates sucha situation that Sona herself has to eat unhealthy food.
Ishwari's habit of negleacting hef health is rather irritating...she loves food...agreed...but she is sick and even a kid when he has fever and is told to keep away from icecreams or not to play would give in unlike the woman who barely listens to anyone...despite Neha making special food for her she makes the servant prepare parathas for herself...makes her nanand bring her junk food...and now tricking Sona into letting her eat oily food...who does that?
The cvs characterization is wonderful and Supriya Maam is an awesome actress.
I totally concur with everything you have stated - I couldn't have said it better myself. Ishwari's characterization is definitely layered and although I do feel for her - raising 4 children with no money and practically no support - I'm failing to side with her now.
Here is my gripe with Ishwari regarding the money issue:
Your son hired a nutritionist to look after you - because you are are a stubborn and incorrigible in your ways. He's paying good money to make sure you are well taken care of, if you REALLY cared about his hard earned money and RESPECTED your children - you would heed to everyone's pleas and follow your doctor's orders.
The other thing that I find interesting is - she's always so concerned about Dev's money and spending too much etc - yet it doesn't bother her one bit to give money away to her her Bhabhi. How is that not "wasting" money?
Mom's like Ishwari are in my opinion the most dangerous - they raise their sons to worship them, all mothers care for their children and will usually go to lengths to protect/provide/nurture their kids. We get that but some how and I'm not quite sure how but along the way, Mom's like Ishwari manage to instill a sense of debt where the son's feel a sense of indebtedness towards their mothers which then cloud their judgement. Mom's like that are all sweet talk but they are very shrewd, calculating and manipulative when it comes to their sons. We've already seen shades of that - she doesn't want Dev getting married any time soon, she wasn't happy for Rhea when Rhea asked to work with her brother, she doesn't care 2 cents about Neha - she doesn't even acknowledge the sacrifices she forced out of Neha and what effect that has had on her life. Even now its all about Dev - she doesn't think about ways to help Neha - to get through to her and get her out of her bitterness - whether that be by appreciating her, acknowledging her sacrifice and contribution to the family and making up for lost time by educating her now. They are rich and it's pretty easy for them to hire a tutor to home school Neha - find out what she wants for a change.
Neha is so right in saying - you gave birth to 4 kids but you are only the mother of 1.
I do appreciate the dysfunctional - multi layered characters portrayed here so far - Neha, Dev even Ishwari are all various shades of grey - Ishwari is probably the darkest shade of grey but she's grey none the less. So far she's only gotten manipulative when it comes to anything she feels threatens her equation with Dev or isn't in her opinion right/good for Dev.
Lets see how this continues to unfold!
I know this is a show but if this were real life I wouldn't want Sona to end up with Dev and his mother. She deserves a better mother in law and life partner - people who can appreciate her for who she is, what she does and respect her independence.
