@Total-Romantic you should actually thank the title track makers of the 1989 version Mahabharat, the lyrics of which made me search and understand this term as a youngster as I have a habit to check for words that I don't understand in lyrics

" Katha ye Purusharth ki hai, Swarth ki, Paramarth ki" is the line. 1989 version depicted Mahabharat as the story of Purusharth, of selfishness and of real knowledge. And true it is. That book is the store house of knowledge and called the Panchama Veda or 5th veda. The book in which God himself gives knowledge to a human is the beauty of MB.

Shruti, lovely post. Yes, you're right. There are 2 kinds of people in contemporary world too. One, who respects a woman and another who thinks a woman is a mere object to be used and thrown. I pity these kind of people who inspite of knowing that a woman who gives birth and nurtures them commit such heinous crimes. You mentioned about Ramayan and Nahabharat being misused, yes that too is right. In this world people are ignorant to learn good things from these epics but are eveready to misuse them.

@fatssrilanka religion by means of epics are used to shackle women. And if woman wants to be liberated, then she needs to have a scientific temper to understand these books, look at it rationally than with divinity and use the same epic to cut back the rhetoric.

You need to know Shehar Shehar se ki katha hai. You need poison to cut poison. Hence if you ask me if any woman wants true liberation from the dogmas of rituals and patriarchy go to these books. Respect and revere them so that you are blessed with the knowledge inside them to liberate you in true sense.

Because the beauty of these books is that unlike the feminism propagated by West, these books helps to appreciate the feminity inside you, help you to understand the blessings you have as a woman and will support you to co-exist with man.
