I always imagine how is personal life of BW ladies.

They have to look good, be fashionable , butter up production houses and be in good books of leading men...

Battle other actresses PR, fight rumors, love life speculations...

They can be replaced by "new flavor" of the season .

Plus there is nepotism and Star kids get better deals.

Criticism is so harsh and you can't afford to fail.

Behind all glamour, there must be very unhappy and insecure women in BW.

Sometimes, because other is more sucessful, your thunder gets stolen

I guess, its easier being a man in BW.

If this was my work place, I would have gone crazy

Yes, but the kind of benefits they get is enviable too. Even if they are absolutely jobless, they will attend one event for a few hours and be paid money that a middle class person dreams of being paid in a year.
With money comes luxury, security, status, fame, respect.. etc etc.

It's not that hard. All one needs to do is not lose sanity and keep going as long as it lasts.

Stories of Madhuri, Menakshi etc are horrible...80s was probably worst period for actresses.

I am glad Subhash Ghai is nowhere in picture now. His karma brought him down.

But they have to lead a very high maintainence life as well.
Somewhere it was mentioned that a strugling actress needs minimum Rs 10 Lakh per month to maintain herself. No wonder, many fall in the escorting business to keep up wit he expenses.

you are so right .. I always used to wonder what kind of a woman would compromise so much to be anything in the world. It was different for the girls who came from bad families and were forced into compromising, but then we see all kinds of smart happy girls doing the same shit. It was always so confusing for me to understand why would they do that.
Then as I grew up, I understood that people are not just about the basic ethics. Some of them would do anything for a luxurious life. And to them, maybe it doesn't even sounds like a compromise because the payback is sooo much more. They might get treated bad by a few people, but then the rest of the world looks upto them, treats them like godesses and then there is money too. They get paid so very much more than what an average person would ever make. Whereas the hard work that the normal person puts in is sooo much more. These actresses get to have a big time good life with a very little hard work. But then I still don't get how such people can live with themselves. I guess eventually when they end up marrying super loaded men after their own careers end, they kind of get what they always wanted - power, money, family, respect etc.

Its a mixed bag. It takes really strong person and even more strong support system. I mean, actresses start young, most probably get exposed to bolly underbelly. The ones that can stomach that and play well and with some luck get to the visibility of the audience. Then the media glare starts. This is when they need to morph into a psychological acrobats. By the time their shelf-life is done (which is way early in BW), if they have managed their finances well, they can lead a life of party hopper or trade all of this to a normal life outside the BW.
Not sure who in BW went and settled outside...in South, few names come to mind.

It's worst for the BW actors wives who live in oblivion... They have everything but no identity... At least the actors enjoy the status and fame...
