  • Results of Most Awaited Movies of 2016
  • By Bollywood Hungama News Network
Like the past, this year too, we, at Bollywood Hungama conducted a poll to chart out what are likely to be the biggest blockbusters of 2016. The analysis was done in the form of a survey held in the month of January 2016 and conducted online amongst online surfers, spanning regions from UK, USA, UAE and India, wherein the user had to select his/her 10 most anticipated movies. To ensure complete transparency and accuracy, a two level authentication check with cookie check and IP mapping was put into place.

The results of the 'Most Awaited Movies of 2016' were compiled based on votes from 167 countries - countries which constitute about 99% of revenue towards Bollywood releases. Facebook users were also allowed to vote thereby increasing the total number of votes polled and creating a larger sample size across geographies. The results drew up some rather obvious and rather interesting surprises. Read on to find out all about the Most Awaited Movies of 2016.

Who to watch out for in 2016:

Shah Rukh Khan

Salman Khan

Aamir Khan

Hrithik Roshan

Akshay Kumar

Ranveer Singh

Anushka Sharma

Star Quotient:

Like last year, this year too it is none other than Shah Rukh Khan who tops the list of celebrities whose films are eagerly awaited. In fact post his last release Dilwale that underperformed at the box office, 2016 will see Shah Rukh featuring in not one but two big ticket releases viz. Raees and Fan. While the first is directed by Rahul Dholakia and features Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, the latter is directed by Maneesh Sharma, and will feature SRK in a never seen before avatar. Interesting, Shah Rukh occupies two slots in the top 5 of the most awaited films this year leading with Raees in first place and Fan taking the fourth spot.

However, close on Shah Rukh Khan's heels is yet another Khan, namely Salman, who comes in second with his film Sultan being voted as the second most awaited film of 2015. The film which features Salman working in a Yash Raj production will see the actor sharing screen space with Anushka Sharma while the project itself is helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar.

Not far behind is the perfectionist Khan, Aamir who takes over the third spot with his upcoming release Dangal that is based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat. Though not much of the film is known, an interesting point here is that like Aamir, Salman too plays a wrestler in his release Sultan.

Making an entrance into the list this year is Hrithik Roshan with the Ashutosh Gowirakar directed Mohenjo Daro. Set in the ancient city of Mohenjo-daro in the era of the Indus Valley civilization the film also features Pooja Hegde.

Ranbir Kapoor makes it to the list yet again with his film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil that is directed by Karan Johar and features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Shetty. In fact anticipation for this film is at an all-time high considering that it will be Aishwarya's second big screen appearance after her recent comeback film Jazbaa.

Akshay Kumar features in the list with two releases, Airlift and Housefull 3. While one has already released and met with highly positive audience feedback and subsequent box office success. The latter features an ensemble cast and will be the third installment in the highly successful Housefull franchise.

On the actress front, Deepika Padukone who featured in the list last year with three releases does not feature in a single release this year. However taking her spot at the top is Anushka Sharma who will be seen in two big ticket films viz. Sultan and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

The other actresses who stand out in the list are the Pakistani actress Mahira Khan who will features in Raees, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vaani Kapoor. While these actresses feature in just one release each this year, anticipation for their films is rather high.

Production Houses:

Among the production houses taking the lead this year is Yash Raj Films with three releases, Sultan, Fan and Befikre. While the first two feature two big Khans from the industry viz. Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, the third which will be directed by Aditya Chopra features Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor.

Coming in second is UTV/ Disney with two releases the Aamir Khan starrer Dangal and the Hrithik Roshan starrer Mohenjo Daro.

What's Not Hot:

Katrina Kaif one of the industry's hottest and most sought after actresses who usually tops the charts when it comes to rankings, seems to have taken a hit yet again this year. While last year it was her film Jagga Jasoos (which did not release) that featured in the list, this year the actress despite featuring in three films Fitoor, Baar Baar Dekho and Jagga Jasoos fails to feature in the list, begging the question about her future career prospects and box office viability.

Priyaka Chopra may be setting the international stage ablaze with her featuring in not just a Western TV series but also a film, but back home she certainly needs to pile of the work. In fact as compared to last year, this year Priyanka features in just a single release Jai Gangaajal.

Saif Ali Khan for the second year in a row features as the least hottest celebrities this year, with just one release Rangoon.

Possible Surprise Packages:

On the other hand 2016 seems to belong to Bollywood's young guns with Shraddha Kapoor featuring in three much talked about releases viz. Baaghi, A Flying Jatt and Rock On!! 2.

Accompanying Shraddha is none other than Alia Bhatt who will be seen in the soon to release Kapoor And Sons, the currently underproduction Udta Punjab and Guari Shinde's yet untitled venture alongside Shah Rukh Khan.

Another surprise package to watch out for this year is Varun Dhawan who enthralled the audience with his gritty performance in Badlapur. The actor who has fast become the youth heartthrob will feature in Dishoom and the recently announced sequel Judwaa 2.

Despite being so busy in Hollywood at least Priyanka has one release in Bollywood too. There's people that have no release at all. I don't even think it's humanly possible to work harder than PC... W*F do these people want?
