Kunj has always been a man of a humble nature, a person whose self-respect is important to him, who not only respects and cherishes the relationships he has, but is incredibly protective of them too. He goes out of his way to help his family as well as anyone who he sees in need and is a forgiving person who never holds grudges, but if someone hurts somebody close to him, it releases a stronger, much more feisty side to him that seems against his nature; this only shows how protective and possessive he is of his loved ones and will do anything to secure the safety of his nearest and dearest.
Another thing that I wanted to point out was something that kunj has once admitted about himself, and that is that he is a emotionally sensitive person; perhaps this is the reason why his pain seems more evident and less supressed when he takes a blow to his self-respect, as any word against his character is the most painful infliction on him that effects him more than anything. However, the beauty of kunj's nature is that despite of this blow to his self-respect he is able to overcome the pain with forgiveness for his wrongdoers as I previously said that he practically goes by the motto 'forgive and forget'.
Going on to his relationship with twinkle, kunj has a lot of expectations from twinkle. The reason for this is that for kunj his marriage with twinkle was merely a compromise for his families happiness and twinkle merely a responsibility. Due to this somewhere kunj tried finding positives in his marriage with twinkle to in a way placate his heart that this marriage was not all that bad and the positives would help him cope with this new found responsibility. This is perhaps why kunj tries to seek a friend in twinkle, and with that he tries to be a friend rather than a husband with her and in return expects complete honesty and trust from her. When he sees these positives take a hard hitting due to maybe twinkle's knack of keeping secrets or when she raises questions on his intentions or actions, it once again reminds him of the nature of his marriage and weakens his intentions of keeping their relationship intact.
With recent episodes where the viewers are witnessing a shift in kunj and twinkle's relationship, kunj's view of his marriage is conflicting with his new found feelings for twinkle as he is seen at times expressing emotions for twinkle such as possessiveness, anxiousness and attraction that he always used to reprimand twinkle for when he thought she was showing such emotions, which he labelled as 'typical' wife behaviour. Twinkle has now become more than a responsibility for him as his anxiousness for her when she is away from him displays, but as he increasingly tries to exercise his rights as a husband on twinkle by advising her against things he deems unsuitable for her or against her wellbeing, he is constantly being faced with what may look like rejection to him from twinkle and he somehow feels she is disconnecting herself from him, which demotivates him from acting upon his growing feelings for her and making him hesitant in trying to be her husband and forcing him to supress his feelings due to the pain her supposed disinterest and neglect of him is giving him.
