||A MENDED PROMISE||
Why can't life always be happy?why when we are in the midst of a huge happiness,life decides to throw the bitter past on you?The past you want to escape,the past you never want to revisit,the past that brings nothing but sadness.
Khushi woke up with a startle and sighed,another bad dream.She went near the window and looked up at the beautiful stars sparkling in the sky.It reminded her life to her,which used to shine as bright as the stars,once upon a time.The time when she and arnav were inseparable,the time when both of them couldn't see beyond each other,the time when they both had planned their life with eachother,the time before he went to Harvard university.
She still remembered the day she went see him off at the airport,he had cupped her face and promised her that he would never leave her alone and would marry her as soon as he completed his studies.A tear rolled down her eyes thinking about it,and then laughed emotionlessely.His promises were nothing but a lie.He had spoken to her for hardly a month after he reached Cambridge,slowly the phone calls started decreasing and the talks had almost become mechanical.It was not the physical distance but it was clear to her that he was avoiding her.He hadn't even come and met her the first time he came to India for holidays.She was so excited to see him,and carried his favourite sweet Jalebis.He loved it when she made it for him.But she was in a rude shock when she met him.He had changed.He did not hug her like usually he did,no cheeky grins nor the excitement.She was immensely hurt but went and gave him jalebis to cheer him up,but was shocked when he gave her a grave look and commented how oily and unhealthy it is,and would never eat such fatty foods.She was visibly shaken up,but with a still smile plastered on her lips,she had bid him a goodbye,since he was least interested in talking to her.
The next time when he visited,he had broken all his promises.He had brought a girl with him.A pretty indian american girl and wanted to marry her.He had even called khushi to his house.She had thought,he finally wanted to reconcile,but was crestfallen when he introduced her to Lavanya.It was as if her heart had stopped beating.She didn't say anything ,didn't remind him of his promises ,but simply congratulated them and left the place with tears in her eyes.
Khushi came back from the trance and sighed.why did he have to come back,when she finally decided to move on.She had not heard from arnav in three years.The years she shifted to mumbai and made a life for herself.she had met Rehan at her company and he proved to be a very good friend to her.Slowly it blossomed into love.And when he proposed,she decided to give her past a closure and start a new life.But obviously,arnav had to spoil it all.She didn't know how the message of her marriage reached arnav,but here he was asking,sorry begging her to talk to him.Rehan knew about arnav and wasn't very comfortable around him,but he asked her to talk to arnav and give a necessary closure.she was to speak to him tomorrow,nothing would change,she told herself,absolutely nothing and promptly burst into tears.
Arnav waited for khushi to come,pacing the hall.when he finally spotted her,he was flabbergasted.she looked absolutely divine in her salwar suit and thought how big of a fool he was to hurt her and let her go.She gave him a small smile and he felt as of his life had returned to him,finally after three years.
"what do you want arnav?"khushi finally spoke breaking the silence
"You"he replied almost immediately
"that's not possible.What are you doing here?"she asked sternly
"I wanted to beg for forgiveness.I was wrong and I was a absolute jerk to you and I have no proper reasons for why I behaved like that expect that I got carried away.Everything seemed so fancy and people there seemed so cool.Partying and getting drunk ,seemed nice at that time."he paused to look at her reaction but received a poker face.
He continued when she didn't speak"I wanted to do all that,but was tied because of the promises I made to you.I felt frustrated.I was absolutely wrong and I realised it,just too late I guess.I know nothing can change your mind,but I just hoped you would...you would give me an another chance."he whispered brokenly
"another chance to what!another chance for you to break your promises!another chance to break my heart!I will never give you that power again!!"khushi screamed with all the pent up agony ,frustration and anger.
"I freaking hate you for everything you have done.i would never forgive you!"
"please khushi..."arnav cried
She left the room covering her tear stricken face and bumped into Rehan and immediately straightened herself.
"Rehan..."khushi muttered brokenly and hugged him tight.
"sshh..everything will be fine."rehan soothed stroking her head
"when will I ever move on!when will I forget arnav!?"khushi cried harder
Rehan simply laughed,a sad laugh and said"I knew you still loved him,but still had a hope,a miniscule one though.we are first friends khushi and I am glad you shared it with me.This marriage wouldnt have succeeded with your heart still with arnav."
Khushi broke the hug and looked at her best friend,"I am so sorry!"she kept on saying it like a broken record and rehan simply waved it off.
"If you really mean it,give him a chance.He regrets it khushi...He even begged me to break this marriage and when I didn't budge,he threatened me."Rehan chuckled
Khushi thought about his advice and decided to be selfish and give arnav a chance.
Arnav was packing to go back to London ,he couldn't stay here and watch khushi being somebody else's.He heard trinkets ,and immediately knew who it was.
He turned behind and watched Khushi enter and immediately stood up.
"I.hate.you.,you know that right."khushi asked
"umm..i deserve it"arnav gave a weak smile
"But,unfortunately the girl in my heart still loves you and wants to give you a chance."khushi apoke breathlessly
Arnavs eyes snapped open and was shocked.Shocked was an understatement of what he felt.Elation,relief and pure happiness suited his situation.
He gave the broadest smile,she had ever seen and immediately closed the distance between them.He kissed her slowly and sensuously.
Khushi covered her face in his chest,covering her flustered look.
He pulled her up and hugged her tight ,kissing her forhead and mouthed hundreds of thank you's.
"If you ever break my heart again,I will castrate you."khushi whispered teasingly
"It will never happen as this time I will never forget my promises.I promise you that I will love and cherish you till the end of our lives."arnav said hugging her closely
Khushi immediately broke the hug and asked"Lavanya?"
Arnav looked confused,and then chuckled,I broke up with that gold digger long time ago and pulled her to himslef again.
"Its only you all my life khushi.Only you"
