Mana to fast for Sanju

Even though Sanjay Dutt is in Yerawada jail in Pune, presently Manayata (or Mana as Dutt calls her) will be keeping Karva Chauth for her 'Duttsaab' (as she calls him).

Says a source close to the Dutt family, "Mana is very religious. She follows most customs and traditions. Last year was the first time she kept Karva Chauth for Sanju. All the wives of the actor's Punjabi friends were fasting, so Mana decided to fast too. At night, all the wives gathered at the rooftop of Imperial Heights (Dutt's residence) to see the moon and break their fasts in front of their husbands. Mana had worn a bandhini dhoop-chao red- and-orange sari with a gold border and Sanju had worn a traditional kurta pajama."

Longer than usual

The insider reminisces, "Actually, Mana ended up fasting for more than 24 hours because of a prank played on her by his friend." Says the source, "The night before Karva Chauth, Sanju had gone for a song recording and was to come back by 12 am and Mana thought she would have dinner with him when he returned.

However, Sanju and his friend Bittu returned at 11.45 pm. And it was then that Bittu told her she had to eat before 12 or not at all. So Mana went without dinner that night. The next day when Sanju told him he was feeling bad for Mana as she hadn't eaten anything, Bittu said he'd been joking!"

Sanju's sensitivity

Sanju went out and bought a diamond set for Mana. "He was upset that Mana was fasting and went without water for over 24 hours. Sanju went to Anmol Jewellers and bought Mana an elegant diamond set — a small chain with pendant and earrings. Sanju also wrote a lovely note in the jewellery box. He gave it to her and asked her to wear it in the evening when she dressed up to see the moon."

And the loving beau Sanju then spent the entire evening cooking for Mana and made the most delicious bhuna mughal mutton for her. He was telling people, "I am making this for Mana, she can eat it after she breaks her fast."

This time, Sanju is not with Mana, but all his friends' wives will keep her company that day. A friend of Mana adds, "Mana misses him badly. She could not sleep for the first few nights. Sanju won't be here this year but she's planning to keep Karva Chauth for him. Of course, there won't be any celebrations this year. She hopes he can come home by Diwali
