I think the HMs confuse strong with deserving. In their eyes, Keith is a gem of a person. And if the trophy doesn't go to them, they want it to go to the most deserving person in their eyes -- Keith. Everyone in the house genuinely likes him.
But they don't realize that Keith's goodness isn't really what makes him deserving and neither is he a very strong player.
