Hi all.
It is time to say good bye to this year, and welcome the new one.
A very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2016 to all here.
Have a blast!

Posted a new article. No wars in this article.
The topic is quite light and is based on architecture.

It is about a garden built by Shah Jahan's daughter - Jahanara Begum in Chandni Chowk in Delhi. Though, it is lost now, and only thing we have about it is some texts and some paintings.

Whatever could be obtained is present below.
Article is by Radhika.

PS :
Do not miss to "see" the paintings. ;)
Collected them after a lot of trouble.

Happy new year everyone :)
Dont pay attention to Abhay. Do read the post to discover the ethereal magic of a bygone era when there were beautiful princesses and anonymous admirers who wrote soulful poetry in praise of their beauty.

Paintings and photos will fill you with nostalgia.

Thanks Bindu!
That house of Begun Samru is in the Jahanara Bagh only.

The title was funny ? ;-P
Though it is a reality. The garden is no where to be seen now. :)

My New year wishes. Have a fine year ahead.

A very Happy New Year to all the readers on this forum. A special thanks to Abhay and Radhika for the wealth of information they share with us.

What a wonderful article Radhika. the illustrations are so beautiful. My personal favorite was Begum Samru's House.

This article comes ironically just a few days after my own visit to Delhi. I timed my visit to attend the legendary thursday evening Qawali at Nizamuddin's pious Dargah. What a wonderful and moving experience it was. One of the highlights of my trip was visiting Jahanara Begum's tomb...I thought a lot about you Radhika. The Khadim of the Dargah gave us a personal tour of the dargah and the tombs which are unmarked and would have been difficult for us to find at night on our own. Unfortunately, Jehanara Begums tomb is very neglected and the Khadim was surprised I even asked for it as most visitors ask for Amir Khusrau's tomb which was also very beautiful.
We then made a trip to Chandini Chowk and had a delicious Mughaliya meal at the iconic Karim's.
Charu is right, but it is hard to imagine the chaos of today's Chandini Chowk as a graceful and vibrant garden filled square in a bygone era.
Jehanara Begum was indeed the the grand old Lady of Shahjehanabad! Thank you for shedding more light on her achievements.
