Musing about heroes vs villains, good vs evil.....

While watching today's episode, I couldn't help but cringe a little, at the antics on display. Ragini throwing a sweeping cloth at Annapurna and having it flung back at her; throwing a glass of water at Annapurna's face, and getting nearly throttled by Lakshya and later, having Sanskaar fling a glass of water in her face in retaliation.

I started pondering about the direction of this eternal battle between good and evil, the serial is now trying to show us.

This is the basic theme running through almost all of our epics, our moral tales, our films, our TV serials, what have you. Good versus evil. Right versus wrong. Inner realization/actualization versus material acquisitiveness.

This battle is never easy. If it was, there wouldn't BE evil in the world, right? A sensible portrayal makes the villain worthy of this battle, worthy of being the hero's polar opposite, his or her formidable rival/opponent.

Gandalf had Saruman. Harry had Voldemort. Aragorn had Sauron. Confronting this diabolical negativity/evil brought out the very finest in these heroes.

Is it too much to expect a proper, cerebral, intriguing battle to be shown in the serial we have all come to love so much? I was so dearly hoping to see a solid, no holds barred war between Ragini, employing wiles, cunning and stratagem; combated by Sanskaar's strategic thinking, meticulous planning, and out of the box inventiveness.

But instead we get wash cloths and glasses of water being flung about...and from the precap, apparently, attempts to blacken Annapurna's face...when Swara intervenes to ensure Ragini gets the mooh kala treatment.
🤢 🤢

I guess the cv's have decided not to redeem Ragini in the foreseeable future. In the present state of affairs, it's difficult to see how she could be convincingly redeemed. There were 2 chances earlier for that---one, if her memory loss was genuine, and second, if a change of heart happened after her kidnapping. But neither of these occurred , so the only way out (without making a horrible hash of the plot), is to keep Ragini as a diabolical villain, at least for the foreseeable future.

No problem there. But can we at least get her to be a villain who is formidable, evoking wariness and fear? Degrading the villain doesn't ennoble the hero. It in fact makes the hero look not-so-wonderful after all, since he or she wouldn't need to really be all that great to vanquish a foe, whose idea of a war, is flinging a glass of water or a wash cloth. 🤢 🤢

Please CV'S. ..give us characters, not caricatures...I beg of you. I am holding on to the serial just for SwaSan and their magical chemistry, and for the wonderful friends, almost a second family, I've made on the forum. But these antics are wearing my will down to the bone...

Ok sorry for the rant guys. 😊 But I really needed to get that off my chest...

Viji, this has been my wish all the time! I wanted a battle between Sanskaar and Ragini and Ragini's redemption at the end of it. But it doesn't look like that anymore...😭

At least let us have SwaSan together...I am joining in your prayer!

u could only write like this so i am quite happy that you made a post on it. I am also irritated with the crap . Ragini should be more intelligent and good game planner and sanskar should be a strategist but u r correct they made the villian so timid that losing a battle doesnt seem a glorified win.
The villain and the lead should both be game planners (like ek hasina thi).

Ragini is shown much like a spoiled brat and dadi giving into anything and everything she wants
nothing villain about her villains should be like komlika of kasauti or something

Hey Shobhs...

That's exactly what I've been thinking. Ok, they don't want to redeem Ragini now, fine, no problems there at all. But at least, make her a worthy antagonist. These silly antics make everyone look bad---not just Ragini. I mean, what is the level of an existential good versus evil clash; if it boils down to flinging glasses of water at each other? How old are they supposed to be, 8?? 🤢

agree with you totally Viji!!!
nowadays my reactions is simple one sentence" Swasan ke liye kya kya dekhnaa padtaa hai."
I just can't the point of them being illogical. I got that for them its all about business and high ratings , they have to add twists and entertainments ,then why not in proper and logical way!! this is I think "question of the century" in Indian television world.

Seriously yaar, characters are being made to turn almost 180 degree turns, with no logic whatsoever. In Dadi's case, she has moved from evil to not-so-bad, to good, back to evil, back to good, and back to evil again, without any coherence whatsoever.

Isn't she the one who kept saying, that if her precious Laado was in the wrong, she herself would punish her? And after Ragini's confession CD came out, Dadi was so furious with her, she wouldn't even speak with her. What happened suddenly now? Its not as if Ragini is doing anything correct presently. Why is Dadi supporting her at all? And why is she back to victimizing Swara, to whom she abjectly apologized not so long back?

Mind boggling!

Hey Viji...my heart goes out to you, it is your good nature that you keep giving second chances...I can't rant with you since I haven't been brave enough to watch that level of nonsense and manage to keep my sanity.
but what you say about villains is so true. It is the capacity of the villain which holds the power of the hero in a story. There are some incidents even where we follow a certain story for its villain not the hero...when sanskar had been the villain that was the case for me...
I had not admired his actions but rather the brilliance he pulled them out with, the sheer cold smartness behind his plotting and the power of his dark image it had been that dark background which made the light swara shine brighter!
nowadays when I see ragini's portrayal I wonder if it's the same show or not. I'm no fan of negativity but here I am disappointed.
