Donjas Akbar is wearing a glove and holding an eagle/hawk/bird in his right hand Hair is grey and he appears a thin person I posted one item in the historical discussion thread where one of his armour is in tata collection and in that also they said surprisingly he seems a thin and lean person

Thanks so much Putija di.

Akbar does seem on the leaner side in the pic. Maybe later in life when his meat consumption decreased he got leaner? He was quite moderate in his eating habits especially later on.

Thanks!

My dear Putija,

Thank you so much for sharing this delightful little article with us, complete with the excellent illustrations.

I have visited the Salar Jung Museum once, when I was a junior official in the Ministry of External Affairs and had accompanied a foreign VVIP there on his visit to the state, as part of his visit to India. But then my time was not my own and it was not a leisurely tour of all these wonderful display items. Whatever I was able to see looked a bit disorganised, but that was 37 years ago and things must have changed for the better since then.

I do hope that once they have this Islamic Art Gallery up and running, they will organise virtual tours of the whole gallery. That would be really a treat!

What fascinated me here was of course the ivory portrait of Akbar - he looks to be in his 50s - and what intrigued me is that the journalist did not see this exhibit as far more important than Nurjahan's fruit knife, and in fact omitted all mention of the portrait of one of the greatest rulers of all time! Talk of mistaken priorities! 😡
